This year has marked a new beginning in the 20 year history of the Improv Resource Center. Over the years we’ve hosted an improv message board which has over 850,000 posts, an improv wiki with hundreds of articles on theaters, teams, improvisers and forms, and a podcast featuring interviews with some of the worlds best improv teachers.
This year we began offering classes through the IRC, and Kevin Mullaney, our director, taught workshops in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Camp Improv Utopia West and Ireland. In September, the IRC established a rehearsal space in the Ravenswood neighborhood in Chicago and started offering drop-in workshops. And in January, our Core Improv Program begins. We have been busy developing a brand new curriculum with the help of a team improv teachers well versed in the Game of the Scene.
The IRC will be producing our first show in new year as well, the 4th Annual Chicago Improv Classic will take over Pipers Alley in January and February with 42 teams performing in the 2 on 2 tourney which becomes a 3 on 3 tourney that becomes a 4 on 4 tourney.
Finally, in 2017, the IRC podcast will be relaunched with new interviews with the world’s top improv teachers. We will also be experimenting with live streaming round table discussions on improv, comedy and the entertainment industry.
