Writing Classes and Electives at The PIT
Level 1: Intro to Sketch Writing
Instructor: Kevin Scott
This is an intro level sketch class, pure and simple, geared towards the student who has never written sketch before, or even a writer who wants a refresher in the basics. Working off the idea that anyone can start writing sketch comedy, you'll learn the formulas that will let you start writing sketch now. You will not need to have pre-existing work to take this class — it will involve practical assignments in individual and team writing. By the end of class, you'll not only have a truckload of sketches, you'll also be prepared to strike out and write great sketch on your own. The class will culminate in a graduation show at The PIT for friends and family.
November 29-January 10 (6 weeks, no class December 27)

Improv Your Public Speaking
Instructor: Taren Sterry
"I have confidence in ME." --Julie Andrews
In this fun and supportive class, students will learn how to improve their public speaking skills and gain confidence by applying improv techniques in public speaking situations. In a safe yet challenging environment, students will be led through group games and individual exercises that will help them be more comfortable in front of a crowd and give them the skills to relax in the midst of "performing." Focus will be on breath, diction, movement, relaxation and confidence while remaining present. Want to be more savvy when going through a Power Point Presentation for the Board? Want to learn to project your voice to a crowd of 250? This class will address each student's specific needs and give them the opportunity to work on current projects.
November 22-December 13 (4 weeks)
