You should go to Red Hook in upstate NY tomorrow for an auction of the entire contents of Bob Guccione's Catskills summer estate! That's where I'm going. I will be bidding my ass off! I loves me some antiques!

Items are expected to go from $25.00 - $50,000.00

Bash Bish Falls.

A great place, and not a terribly long ride from some other great, light hikes and great barrington Mass. You would also be near some great places in litchfield county CT, including my beautiful hometown (winsted/winchester) which boasts a beautiful lake, great hiking, cool historical stuff (most of it reportedly hauted) and great restaurants (surprisingly great). There are some bed and breakfasts, and hotels in nearby torrington, and all over the berkshire area. If you don't want to drive, you can take a bonanza bus from penn station to Torrington, Winsted, or a number of towns all the way up to Pittsfield, Mass, and I know plenty of places where you can stay, and people and companies who would give you a lift anywhere you would need to go. You could also take the Metro North all the way up to Waterbury...

Or, you could do the Labor Day weekend thing and take the Metro and the Shoreline east to Mystic, Old Saybrook, or get over the Rhode Island border and hang out on the beach and booze in Westerly/Misquamicut (sp?).

Mystic is a beautiful idea! (Then again, I'm biased--it's my hometown.) Unfortunately, though, Shoreline East doesn't run on the weekend, so you'd have to take Amtrak, which is ridiculously expensive. Boo. But it is a supercool getaway...

me likem corn

get out to long island! out east!
i went to an Indian Pow-Wow today in Shinnecock.
I ate many corn related things, shot a bear w/ a bow and arrow and bought a cool blanket. I got my dose of culture for the weekend.

Bolton Landing, NY.
How strange! That's where I was this weekend. I second the motion. (It's on Lake George, a place near and dear to my heart.)

Also, the Pharoah Lake Wilderness, if you're feeling adventurous. I may start a hiking thread just to give you all the skinny on this little slice of heaven.
