My first halloween in NYC I went to the parade.

It's crowded, drunk, massive crowds...
Don't know if i'll go back, but I can say I was there to see it at least once.

As far as this year...I have no effing clue. I don't even know about whether or not I;m gonna get decked out or not...hmmmm...

The parade is really really fun and I'd reccomend that you spend your first Halloween partaking in it's madness.

For the weekend leading up to Halloween there's lots of great stuff going on, especially if you're a spooky movie buff like myself.

Of course there's the old stalwart, Rocky Horror, which has moved over the last few years to the Clearview Chelsea right near the UCBT.

I'm hosting a screening of Forbidden Zone at Juvie Hall midnight on the 29th, which will be really fun (it's one of my favorite movies, perfect for Halloween. www.forbiddenzonethemovie.com if you are unfamiliar with it).

They're also showing Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead and a whole bunch of really gory crazy exploitational movies at the Two Boots theater over the weekend.

In case you weren't planning on going, Killgore at the UCB really seriously rocks. A wonderful Halloween tradition.

I'm probably gonna get to do about half of the activities I listed here. I wish I could do them all. I love Halloween a lot.

Have fun whatever you plan to do!

How do you end up marching in the parade?
All you have to do is show up at the end of the parade and walk on in. There's no registration, and you don't even have to be wearing a costume. I usually wear some odds and ends that I have around the house and a hand puppet and I interact with the little kids who come to the parade. There's really not enough for the little kids. The police do shut off the parade entrance 45-60 minutes after the parade begins and climbing over that fence they have along the parade route is more trouble than it is worth. Don't want to be in jail for disordrrly conduct in a costume.

My grandmother took my brother and me to the parade when we were kids. Soo much fun seeing our first trannies! Good times, worth checking out either by getting there early (at the very beginning of the parade) or late (when the parade's broken up and everyone's strolling about in costumed glory!)

I'll be out of town, hoping to score tickets to Sweeney Todd!

Go see Killgore, definitely! (I don't think it's playing on the day of Halloween, though!)

I don't have any fun plans, so I'm going to be doing a little something I like to call, "crying in my soup".
You're assuming that you're going to survive the final show of Dr. Oddbody. I heard that this whole show is really an elaborate 15 part ritual which will culminate in Chelsea being hurled into the Dimension of the Tentacled Eye as midnight breaks on Oct. 30, which would probably cancel the parade, ruining my pland forcing me to buy a bunch of mini Almond Joys for the little brats that will be ringing my bell.

This isn't a plug. It's a bit.
