Improv Resource Center - Forums

As many IRC folk may know I have been cohosting a show in the lower east side called VARIETY UNDERGROUND since April 2003.

It's a free comedy variety show that has proudly served as a launch pad for such acts as Aziz Ansari, Dave Hill, Chris "Shockwave" Sullivan as well as Channel 102 and The Spotlight not to mention the debut of an ever increasing number of improv comedy groups.

Still haven't heard of it? Well, let's see what we can do about that.

VU is constantly changing in order to better serve the improv community. Right now, several dozen folks use VU as a testing ground to workshop material such as improv, sketches, stand up, and musical acts. Consider this post as an official invite to everyone else to do the same thing.

Shawn Amaro and I are going to put on one or more of the following shows at Variety Underground in the coming months.
(1) Rock 'n Roll Karaoke show (improvisers sing existing songs with actual improviser-musicians backing them - not quite the awesome caliber of etv but similar idea)

(2) Impoviser Stand Up Night (Improvisers sign up to do actual stand up they have been working on or character stand up)

(3) Improviser Film Festival (Improvisers create short films with certain criteria that will then be projected at VU and awards given)

These are all things we want to do but since we live in a democracy, we want to hear from you. Please respond to the poll on this post. In addition, if you have any other ideas or combination ideas (of the stuff above or other) than please either post it here, PM me on the board, or use this new "Contact Hosts" email submission thing I coded onto the VU website...
