BASSPROV is an original comedy created by veteran
Chicago improvisers Joe Bill and Mark Sutton. The
show is a semi-scripted one-act play that spins off of
two simple audience suggestions. The setting is the
fishing boat of Donny Weaver (Sutton), where he and
his best friend Earl Hinkle (Bill) find refuge from
the chaos of their world. Donny and Earl use the boat
as a forum to discuss the issues of our time,
commiserate over love won and lost, trade parenting
tips, and discuss the merits of everything from Dr.
Phil to the plays of William Shakespeare. They also,
of course, fish and drink a little beer. Its simple
style and down home characters capture the
straightforward lifestyle of the American heartland.
The show sets up the audience with “good old boy”
characters and then blows them away with intelligent
debate and often poignant insight into life in modern
times.
Bill and Sutton have been headlining improv and comedy
festivals across the US and Canada since they
premiered BASSPROV at the 2001 Chicago Improv
Festival. The Chicago Reader labeled the group a
"Critic's Choice," and BASSPROV has been hailed across
the continent as "hilarious" (Chicago Sun-Times),
"effortlessly brilliant" (Ink19 Magazine, Orlando),
and "best in show" (ArtSpike Magazine, Cincinnati).
Donny and Earl have also garnered the attention of
Hollywood's comedy elite, and have shared their boat
with such stars as Dan Castellaneta, Emo Philips,
Horatio Sanz, Stephanie Weir, and Fred Willard. For

BASSPROV will headline the two performances at the
Babcock, and will include a special recital of Joe
Bill's "The Scramble," starring a cast of improv
students from Friday and Saturday's workshops. The
group will also be joined on stage by local duo JoKyR
and Jesster (Joseph Kyle Rogan and Jesse Parent), two
of Utah's most prolific improvisers. Between the two
actors, they boast a combined experience of over
twenty-two years in improvisational theatre, having
studied at numerous schools and theatres across the
continent. In 2005, the duo produced a smashingly
successful North American Tour, with ten stops
throughout the United States and Canada. For more
