Upper East Side Gyms

#1
Does anybody know of any quality gyms on the Upper East Side which are cheaper and just as good as NYSC or Bally's? I would prefer a Gold's or World's Gym, but their don't appear to be any in the immediate area. Thank you for your time.

i joined crunch last summer
with the 2 year membership, it wound up being about $50. month
(for a membership that lets me use all the crunches in the city)

i love it, not too crowded, great hours, free classes
....not for nothin either, plenty of cute girls to look at

i dont know how far up you are on the UES, but there is a crunch on 59th street/2nd ave

anyway, if you were inclined, they will give you a free one week pass, to check them out.

Not at all Upper, East for sure and the best deal in town...
City Parks and Recreation Gym at Asser Levy & 23rd

$75/year.

I always feel the need to promote this deal. No personal gain, just a long time member.

You can do the same thing in the West Village I know. I think it is where the pool is on Cornelia just south of Bleeker.

City Parks and Recreation Info

I am not hijacking this thread, just answering Jeff's question. :2c: Two of Clubs!!

Find much info here.

Otherwise I will say that they have facilities all over the city. They all feature different things, so check them out. Asser Levy is 1 block east of First Ave off 23rd Street. It features perhaps the largest facility for "working out." But like many of these gyms, has no real amenities. It's DIY. It also has a swimming pool, locker rooms and 2 billiards tables.

If you go there and are skeptical a brand spanking new place on 25th Street in Chelsea just opened this year and has all the same stuff, but divides their workout facilities by floors and rooms. Newer equals cleaner. It features a huge basketball court too!

Just check the link above though. I talk alot.

Personally as a fitness buff (I run twice a day, lift, swim ,and do Thai Chi.) do Crunch. So your personal trainer may be an ex-con (this is just a rumor I heard from my trainer back in Pittsburgh. I used to work in a gym). But you will get a good trainer. If not, go to a place with a pool. Swimming is good. You will lose back fat and arm flab. (I lost 10 pounds of pure fat swimming). Also, get a trainer. You cannot get to the Mecca of Firness on your own and when you get your trainer look and them and ask yourself, "Do I want to look like that?" (I know two fat trainers. My mom's a trainer and man is she toned. As a result she's one of the most popular in our health club and her clients love her.) But beware, trainers may try to change your diet but their heart is in the right place. Ebrace fitness today. IT is not merely a choice but a lifestyle

Obviously Paul has already "ebraced" fitness. Now he is looking for a gym on the Upper East Side.

Also...awesome! $75 a year. If my gym weren't already free I would join. Thanks for the info, dishman.

Thanks for all the help, but I am not looking for a personal trainer. I myself used to be one back in the day. Nor am I looking to lose any weight. I just want a place where I am continue to work out and gain weight. Most importantly I want to stay healthy and keep my cholesterol down.

I'm a Crunch (59th and 2nd) lady too. I LOVE IT. Not too crowded, fun classes and a good atmosphere.
Oh...and they have a dodgeball class that is AWESOME.
