About Our Classes

Annoyance's improv training is guided by our Artistic Director, Mick Napier and based on the approach found in his book Improvise. Scene from the Inside Out. We are known for giving specific, individualized feedback to our students and helping them to develop and maintain a strong individual voice in their improvisation. Our classes focus on scenic improvisation, that is, we don't focus on performance games, rules of improvisation, or performance styles such as "The Harold".
Through scenework, classes address the beginning, or initiation of a scene; developing and maintaining strong characters; learning to hold on to your initial choices while at the same time, expanding on (heightening) the choices you have made; and learning to become deft at creating and weaving unexpected, character-based choices into your work.

We maintain small class sizes with a maximum of 16 students per class. Attendance at all classes is expected. Student may not miss more than two classes in order to move up to the next level.

Our NY Classes will be held in Williamsburg off the L Train (Lorimer) at:
Union Docs - 322 Union Ave, Brooklyn NY

"I have appreciated every minute of class. Some are terrifying, others are joyful. This is a GREAT PROGRAM! Who knows what will happen next, but this has been wonderful. For my first taste of improv, this was the best choice."- L. Jones

Just as sketch writers must perfect their writer's packets, sketch actors must perfect their character work. This class will focus on providing the skills needed to create rich characters and impersonations and introduce strategies and tips for easily calling up the characters that you've created and applying them intelligently to live performances, videos and auditions.
$100

And a couple spots left in our 8-week AP1 class - for Students with less than a year of improv experience!

AP1 (Ult. Beginner) with Christian Capozzoli
Saturdays, 11:00-2:00 PM
1/18-3/8
AP1 - THE ULTIMATE BEGINNER IMPROV CLASS is a survey course that will give anyone an extremely solid foundation in improvisational comedy. Whether you want to perform, direct, write, or just know more, THE ULTIMATE BEGINNER IMPROV CLASS will give you a foundation in the Annoyance philosophy of what it means to play with abandonment, withhold judgement and say "Yes, And" to every idea, and commit to your characters and choices. New to improv? This class is probably for you.
$350
FINAL CLASS PERFORMANCE: Friday, March 14th @ 7-9 PM
