UCB grading system

Since this has gotten muddled, I'll ask again (because we did get side-tracked in the middle)

IS UCB USING A GRADING SYSTEM OTHER THAN PASS/FAIL?

UCB IS NOT SINISTER OR A MONSTER

If we are being graded - then I think people should know that and what the purposes of grading are being used for.
-----
I just got a NEW question: Do I want to be graded?
Answer: I don't care.

I tend to take improv classes for enjoyment and perhaps the chance to perform. And for the babes, but that's another story.
Let's not attack each other but focus on all the babes in our classes.

I wonder what notes this pup got...probably don't play the same character, mr. adorable.

Seriously though, I think if we are being "graded", its mostly just for development reasons. Are you actually progressing or are you taking classes back to back because you can afford it but aren't really making any changes to your performances. With a school as a big as the UCB, its hard to sometimes be personal with all your students, this way once your teachers see who signed up for the class, they can better tailor it to your needs.

That font was not big enough. As soon as someone posts with a larger font, Joe Wengert will reply.

I'm in mint condition. Sadly, I have a crappy story line, iffy art, and feature a character no one cares about.

I can be purchased for $1.15 cents on Ebay.

I didn't hear a RUMOR - I was told I'm being graded. So I'm trying to figure out what that means. Which is why I'm asking the question.
Did you try directly asking the person who said you were being graded? It seems like that would clear a lot of this up.

If you have a personal problem with me....PM or email me.
I don't have a personal problem with you. If I had a personal problem with you, I would deal with it personally. I am posting on a public forum because I have a problem with the public.

I apologize because I did create a straw man in my last post and most people when they do are making personal comments underhandedly.

I have an inconsequential background in education and I'm aware of how hard it is to give personal feedback. I'm impressed by the personal feedback I've received in all of my improv classes; the idea that knowing a grade would be of any use actually upsets me. And that is why I used the word "fucking" in my post.

Also - until someone does post in a larger font, I'd like to say - for the record...

The UCBT staff is incredibly communicative. It's not only our job - we love it. We answer any and all questions from students and/or performers to the best of our abilities. We have nothing to hide and all do everything we can to make our processes as transparent as possible - both with the theatre and the training center (which are separate, though connected, entities).

So this question could have been answered quickly, easily, and without gigantic fonts with an email or phone call to Joe, Shannon, or me.

The same is true for all future questions. It's always amazing what straightforward communication can do.

Now - someone please post in a giant font so Joe can respond.

I was told I was being graded. I did not specifically ask as to what kind of grading. However, I already got my answer a while ago, but I do feel that UCB heads would state it much more clearly than me (as far as this "grading" thing goes).

my puppy again...

A grading system could be useful to ensure instructors consider the performance of all their students. With so many people in so many classes, I'm sure some get less attention than others.

It's been said a couple times in this thread that the instructors aren't hiding secret notes. But that doesn't mean they're actually forming useful evaluations of every student.

A couple years ago, I went to my 501 teacher after the last class and asked for feedback. I said I felt like I'd hit a wall, and could he recommend what I should be working on and what teacher might be best for my next class. He said he didn't have an answer because because he wasn't familiar enough with my improv skills.

Perhaps the rumored grading system is designed to prevent situations like this.
