A Salt and Battery is cheap? Not for me, it wasn't. I got Cod and Chips and a beer there last summer and it was ~$16. not cheap. prove me wrong if you can, though, 'cause it was really tasty.

ONE MORE GREAT DATE:

Museum night, on Friday evenings. Not sure if you all know, but for those of you who don't, both the MET and the Gugengheim are free Friday evenings, and they even stay open late! There is often a PARTY on these occasions! Yes! It's true! I saw the Brazilian art exhibit at the Gug last year and was serenaded by a cool Jazz band at the bottom of the snail the whole time.

At both the Met, and the Gug, a nightime event to these quite hip, and well attended affairs, is a good idea.

ALSO: I hear (according to Time Out, I supose a reliable source), that the PLANETARIUM attached the the Museum of Nat History has a party on Friday nights as well! Gazonga! Apparantly, there you can sip drinks under the starry night that twirls and flies above your head at the planatarium. Now THAT sounds like a cool date too.

I said it before, but FAO Schwartz is kind of a cool date also...

Happy dates.....

I don't know if I've had dates in these places, but here are spots/things I like:

Oznot's Dish in Williamsburg

Some burger joint under the West Side Highway at 79th street. Not for the food, but just because it's strange that it's there.

Radio Perfecto on Avenue B

Bicycle over the Brooklyn Bridge, or up the West Side of Manhattan. Or walk over Ward's Island Bridge.

Movies at BAM.

$8 Burgers at Peter Lugers during lunch

Circle Line tour! Yes, the touristy thing that I made fun of for years, then actually enjoyed when I did it.

Walk all of Broadway from top to bottom. A poor first date, perhaps.

I dig Indian Row or whatever it's called on East 6th street.

Rio Mar in the meat packing district.

Batting cages at Chelsea Piers.

Any band at Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg.

Curly Fries at Arby's; then tenderly bone her in the bathroom.

Flowers and stuff.

Dude, not only does Island Burger not serve fries, they are famous for NOT having them.

Try the deep dish Chicago style pizza@Lombardi's!

See?

Arizona 206 may be gone, but the Patsy's Pizza which replaced it didn't remodel the restrooms. This is perhaps the best place in New York to have restroom sex. The doors lock and they are secluded. 206 East 60th Street.

Moustache Pitza
90 Bedford St Ground, New York __(212) 229-2220
(Right near you Berrebbi)
Small, quaint, best hummous I've ever had, fresh baked Pita.
10-15 per plate

Les Deux Gamins Le Gamin __French
170 Waverly Pl, New York __(212) 807-7357
(Also right near you Berrebbi)
My favorite breakfast spot. Best french toast I've ever had. You know you've met someone special when a girl will meet you for breakfast. I've yet to find that girl.
8-10 per plate

Decibel
240 E. 9th St.
Very cool underground Saki Bar. Lots of Japenese hardcore kids working there, and they're usually spinning cool music. And you have to Buzz in.
I think it is something like an $8 per person minimum.

Okay, so who's gonna take me on one of these great dates when Im in the city? May 16-19th. I'll be taking applications. I'm pretty easy to please, and if youre cute and nice, I just might put out ;)

Les Deux Gamins is no more - discovered that when I was hankering for some expensive eggs and attitude....I'm not sure what happened.

Since moving out of Astoria, I find I REALLY miss Cronin & Phelan (Bway near Steinway) the absolute best Fish & Chips in the city, ($6.95) and the service is tremendous.

Cedar Tavern is a good date spot, as is Forbidden City (Lychee martinis!) on A, between 13th & 14th.

That is terrible news Pickle Jar. It was closed once when I went too. I was hoping it was just temporary. Terrible news. That was THE spot where I planned to meet my future wife for breakfast. I'm so fucked.

Those fish and chips sound good, though. I love fish and chips. Surprisingly, the fish and chips I had in London weren't very good.

I absolutely love showing people the awesomeness and beauty of NY when they visit from out of town.

But do people still date? Can't remember the last time I went out on a date. Seems these days people are more casual, preferring to just hang out and see what happens. Or maybe that's just me trying to avoid rejection.

Being a New Yorker myself, I would have to say everything is worthy of a date but here are some suggestions (they are, of course, my own biased opinions):

The Brooklyn Bridge: one could walk across it with his/her sweetie at either the onset of a sunrise or as the sun sets. In both cases, BEE-U-TEE-FULL.

Any art-house movie theatre: to show off how intelligent you are. My pick would be the BAM Rose Cinemas in Downtown Brooklyn... not as foo-foo, upper class crusty as the Lincoln Plaza or the Paris Theatre and isn't directly above a subway line, like at the Angelika where your viewing pleasure is interrupted by the passing trains beneath.

Parks: Plenty of parks (Central Park, Flushing Meadows, Prospect Park) in the city but there are some hidden treasures like Van Cortland in the Bronx, City Island (also in the Bronx) and Dyker Heights Park in Brooklyn.

Coney Island: forget all that crap you hear about how unclean it is. Strides have been made and it is better than ever. The beach is the safest it's been in decades. And the amusement park isn't that bad either. It has an old-timey feel to it. (And that's not to knock Six Flags.)

You also have plenty of clubs and nightspots one may take a date to... but I agree with all those who put comedy on the top of the list (most especially the UCB, the PIT, and other improv spots) because, speaking as a heterosexual male, when if my date is having a good time, chances are all will be good later on.

-The Cloisters at the way-top of Manhattan is great. It's designed to look like a monastery, and the Met houses all their Medieval art on its grounds. It also overlooks the river & some beautiful cliffs. Take the A to 190th

-Bleacher & Upper Deck seats at Yankee and Met games go super-cheap, and the people around you can make it interesting.

-A bunch of sushi places have early-bird weekend dinner specials for under $10. (i.e. Esashi on 4th and A)

-Clinton St. Bakery has the BEST breakfasts in the whole wide world. Buttermilk biscuits unparalelled, too.
