Here is the latest situation. As of now, it appears that we will not be able to have shows at the theatre on 22nd street until after our hearing on January 2nd. The advice we have gotten has been clear that we should be able to reopen after that hearing. So here is what is going on in the mean time.
  1. Several shows have gotten official callbacks for the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival that HBO runs in Aspen each year. We have arranged to have those callbacks at Access Theatre on Friday. The shows will be free and the performers would appreciate your support by attending the shows. Click here for more info.
  2. We are going to be doing a nearly full roster of shows at the Access Theatre this month. Click on the UCB Theatre schedule to see what is confirmed. I will be confirming more shows today and tomorrow.
  3. We sent out an email to all level 3 classes that said all of the new team harolds for December were cancelled. Well, many will be back on. We are going to do our best to get as many as we can up and running at Access Theatre. We will get that info out as soon as possible.
  4. Some weekend classes that normally are at 22nd street will be at Access Theatre. Look for eamils about this if you have a class on the weekend at the theatre.
  5. We are looking for someone who knows how to sell things on ebay. As part of our effort to raise cash over the next couple of months, we will be auctioning things there and we need someone to be in charge of the effort. If you have the time to manage dozens of auctions for us over the next month or two. Please email me at mullaney@improvisation.ws

Pack the house!

One great and easy way you can help us out this month is to simply pack the house at Access Theatre. It's a little of a risk for us to open up there for the month, but we felt it was important to have shows up and running. So come see a few shows there and drag along your friends. Spread the word that we are up and running. Thanks for your support.

Access Theatre is at 380 Broadway
(@ White Street, just south of Canal)
Nearest Subways: NRWQ456ACE

Thank you

The last 2-3 days have been terribly hectic. I know we couldn't have gotten through them without a lot of help by so many people. Shelly and Chad have been working their butts off. But so many others have gone above and beyond to help things go smoothly. Thanks to Eli, Waddell, Adam and Alex for making sure our get in went well yesterday. Thanks to Shannon, McKeel, Gethard and others that helped out today. And finally, thanks to the great audiences that showed up to our first night at Access Theatre.

Tomorrow, there is another set of great shows at 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30. Grab a friend and drag them down to Canal street to see some comedy.

Rescheduling

There are a number of changes that I have been made already to the schedule for December. I've been doing my best to handle things fairly. Please be patient and understanding if you end up losing a couple of show dates.

I will be reworking the entire schedule for January. If we had previously spoke about a show in January, you will want to email me again, this is especially true of SPANK slots, since so many of them had to be cancelled. Much of it will be the same and the long term shows won't likely change. Expect emails from me in the next couple of days.

Another idea to help us raise capital: Buy a gift certificate for your next class in advance, or buy all your friends gift certificates as Christmas presents this year.

We are still looking for theatres

I want to dispel the idea that we are done looking for spaces. We aren't. We still need to find better options than we have in front of us. There is a good chance that we will be able to reopen on January 2nd. However, there is still a possibility that we won't. Even if we can, we are still looking at other options. In the long term, we have outgrown our current location and will need to move at some point in the future. The options in front of us are either too expensive or won't work for other reasons. Bottom line is that we still need people to search for possible locations.

If you see a for rent or for sale sign on a building that looks like it would work, please call and find out some basics about the space and send the info to ucbinfo@aol.com.

Harold Night is Back

You don't want to be anywhere else tonight. Harold Night is back at Access Theatre. Mother and Respecto are in the Cagematch! It only seats 65, so you better make reservations.

Help with the Get Out from Access

Tonight is our last show at Access Theater and we need a few people to help load up a van with various props and equipment that we brought over from 22nd street. If you were planning on going to the show tonight and wouldn't mind sticking around for a few minutes to help us load up the van, I would appreciate it.

It shouldn't take long, and there is an elevator.

Tonight's Party

It's moved. We are now going to be having the party at the Chelsea Playhouse, just down the block from our theatre. Hooray! Tickets will be available at the door.

New Team Harold

If you are curious about your new team harold schedule. I am waiting for some info from Chelsea Playhouse, before I (re)publish the January dates for new team Harold. Suffice to say that Julie Brister's Wednesday night level 3 is on tonight at Chelsea Playhouse, I will email the rest of the dates to the level 3 students directly, as soon as I know.

Need a hand tonight

We could use a hand tonight. We are moving our office from 161 West 22nd Street to our new office on 23rd Street above the Malibu Diner. The move shouldn't be too bad, especially if we get lots of help. As soon as I know the time that we are going to move, I will post it here. I think it will be sometime between 4 and 7.

The UCBT Office has moved

The UCB Theatre is proud to announce the opening of a new classroom, office and rehearsal space at 163 West 23rd Street. We are taking over the entire 5th floor of the building (don't worry, there is an elevator). The office on the third floor of 161 West 22nd Street has been cleared out and will also be used as a classroom.

If you want to register in person tomorrow, you should do so at our new office on 23rd. We will be there all day, organizing boxes and getting the rooms ready for classes next week.

If you want to talk to us over the phone, our phone numbers will be the same as before, but may not be installed until late on Thursday afternoon. Just leave a message there or email the theatre at ucbinfo@aol.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Have a car? Want to do some light handiwork?

We have moved into the new classroom space and there are lots of little things that we would like to do to make the classrooms better like hanging some blinds and perhaps helping to insulate some windows. If you have the time to do some handiwork over the next couple of days, send me an email.

UCBT at the Chelsea Playhouse through April

Just yesterday we came to an agreement with the Chelsea Playhouse to do performances there through the end of April. In February, we will only be doing a few late night shows and sunday shows. In March we will be doing 6 nights a week. In April... 7 nights a week. Check the schedule at ucbtheatre.com in a few days to see what shows will be playing. There will be some great new shows coming up.

In addition, we will be doing Harold Night at Cinema Classics in February. Also, Coldcocked, our Williamsburg show, becomes a weekly show in February. Every Tuesday we will be doing two shows at the Charlie Pineapple Theatre in Brooklyn, around the corner from The Abbey. Look for details on the website in the next few days.
