THE OTHER NETWORK
A Festival of the Best Un-Aired TV Shows Ever Made
Brought to you by UnCabaret and Modern Humorist
April 5, 6, 7 at The Knitting Factory Main Stage
7:30, 74 Leonard St., $15 per night, $35 for all three $40 for three nights plus "Say the Word" on April 8
212-219-3006 or knittingfactory.com for tickets
After a standing-room-only run at the Knitting Factory last fall, "The Other Network" is back with un-aired and previously un-seen pilots by some of the most creative talent in TV: the writers behind "Larry Sanders,” "Mr. Show," "Freaks & Geeks," "The Ben Stiller Show,” "Roseanne,” and "Saturday Night Live," including Bob Odenkirk, Robert Smigel, Conan O’Brien, Judd Apatow and Ben Stiller. Featuring on-screen talent like Jack Black, Owen Wilson, David Cross, Amy Poehler, Ron Silver, Adam West, Fred Armisen and James Caan.
The Other Network gives audiences a unique look at TV shows that were too original, too creative, or too disturbing for broadcast TV. And the festival offers a unique glimpse into the process of making television with live or specially-recorded introductions to each show by their creators.
Every year the broadcast networks spend millions of dollars making over a hundred TV shows, but very few ever make it to the air. Writers, producers, actors, crews, and network executives put their creative energy, hearts and souls into these programs, but the finished product is only ever seen by a few people, maybe a focus group or two. Until now.
The screening schedule for "The Other Network" at the Knitting Factory NY:
Saturday, April 5 - The Other Network
The awesome "HEAT-VISION & JACK" by Dan Harmon & Rob Schrab, directed by Ben Stiller, starring Jack Black as a super-intelligent ex-astronaut and Owen Wilson as the voice of his sidekick, a talking motorcycle, on the run from the villainous NASA enforcer Ron Silver (playing himself).
"SICK IN THE HEAD", an hilariously demented sitcom by Judd Apatow ("Freaks & Geeks"), starring Kevin Corrigan, Andrea Martin, David Krumholtz as a brand new psychiatrist and Amy Poehler as his suicidal patient.
"SEXUAL REVOLUTION", an un-aired _music video by Macy Gray & Dayton/Faris. Too sexy for MTV? Decide for yourself.
"WHEN YOU WISH UPON A WEINSTEIN", the one episode of "THE FAMILY GUY" that Fox decided was too Semitic (or was it just too damn funny?) to air, by Seth McFarlane (who will present live).
Sunday, April 6 - The Other Network
"NEXT!" (Episode 2) of this sly, sarcastic sketch spectacle by Bob Odenkirk ("Mr Show"), starring Bob, Fred Armisen, David Cross.
"THE ERIC GILLILAND PROJECT" an explicitly political sit-com by Eric Gilliland ("Roseanne"), starring James Caan, Jill Clayburgh (with live intro).
"BECOMING GLEN" by Ricky Blitt ("The Family Guy"), starring Samantha Mathis, Johnny Galecki as a 32-year-old who can1t leave home and Sally Struthers as the quintessential overbearing Mom.
"CHUCK NORRIS" a music-video by hip-hop hysterics Supafloss (Michael Rivkin & Kirk Ward), featuring John C. Reilly, Jack Black, and Chris Parnell as Chuck Norris.
Monday, April 7 - The Other Network
The legendary "LOOKWELL!" by Robert Smigel ("Saturday Night Live", "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog") & Conan O'Brien, starring Adam West as a has-been TV star who thinks he1s a detective.
"SATURDAY TV FUNHOUSE" by Robert Smigel & Dino Stamatoupolis, a darkly demented kids show that is definitely not suitable for kids. (Smigel will appear live).
"RELOAD" a music-video too controversial for MTV because of its JFK assassination theme by Ministry, directed by Doug Freel.
"SUPER AGENT: ROB" by Rob Kerkovich, Kevin Roache & Nicholas Howard, about a super-nerd turned super-agent, made on a budget of (no kidding) $700!
Plus:
Tuesday, April 8 -- Un-Cabaret presents "SAY THE WORD"
Top TV comedy writers read their own work. Intimate, inspired first-person non-fiction from Beth Lapides, Cindy Chupack ("Sex and the City"), Winnie Holzman (creator of "My So-Called Life"), Eric Gilliland ("Roseanne"), Eric Drysdale ("The Daily Show"), Todd Hansen ("The Onion"). Sponsored by The Onion.
