The Apartment Thread (October 2007)

Do 4BR apartments exist in Manhattan?

If you or anyone you know lives in a decent and acceptable 4BR apartment in Manhattan, please PM me. Three roommates and I have been searching for weeks to no avail.

A kitchen does NOT count as a fourth bedroom.

Thank you!!

Want to live near Prospect Park in a quaint row house? Email me! (radioactivespork at gmail)

Details:

One room available in a three bedroom apartment on the second floor of an old but very well kept row house just a stone's throw away from the Parade Grounds of Prospect Park. Room has a window looking out onto the street (which is fairly quiet), closet and ceiling fan.
The apartment itself has a large living room with plenty of light, a refurbished kitchen, and a pink bathroom.
You'd be sharing the apartment with my roommate (a single female professional who spends her nights writing, and developing theater projects) and me (a reserved library assistant at the Brooklyn Museum/layabout amongst the improv scene). We do have a cat, who is quite shy with new people and mostly stays out of the way.

A short walk from the Church Avenue Q and B stops and the Fort Hamilton F stop. Very close to laundromats, several grocery stores and pinata dealers, restaurants and a nice coffee joint. Oh and did I mention the apartment is right down the block from Prospect Park? You can sit on the stoop at night and listen to the peep frogs!

Apartment is clean, the land lady is sweet (and kooky), and the roommates are respectful and normally out and about most days. Non-smoker preferred. Rent comes to $650 plus utilities.

Hi, IRC.

I'm looking to sign a new lease in the next 4 weeks, as my current one ends July 1.

I'm flexible in neighborhood, though generally not looking to be north of 125th street. My upper limit is $1200/month, but the closer I get to that limit the more amazing the neighborhood/apartment hopefully is.

A bit about myself? I'm an improviser at UCB, and that and coaching takes up a decent chunk of my time. I'm usually out of the house weeknights and during the day weekends. I'm a researcher for an internet company, so I do work from home 2/3 times a week, but that varies.

Besides that? I'm pretty quiet and while I'm not going to win the martha stewart award, I keep public spaces clean and tidy.

In short, I'm looking for a quiet, sane apartment that can be fun, too.

Feel free to drop me a line to see if you're interested in talking more?

Room for rent in Sunset Park $500

I have a room to rent in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. $500.00 a month plus utilities. Move in is June 1st with a $500.00 deposit.

The place: A a split level row house 3 doors from the park. Our apartment has 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, living room and a common area that we sometime have guests stay in. 4th roommates lives in a fourth room down in the basement. A small green backyard with a persimmon tree.

The neighborhood: Largely Puerto Rican and Mexican, Brooklyn's Chinatown is a couple blocks away. The neighborhood is quite safe and the park (3 doors away) has an incredible view of Jersey and the City.

The room: About 120 square feet. It is in the middle of the apartment so there are no windows. It is an actual room (not dividers or anything makeshift) with a closet of shelves.

The people: A 36 year old male artist, 26 year old female improv actor (that's me!), a 30 year old filmmaker...and when Garrett comes back he is the other roommate. Nice folks very involved with their careers. We get together and go out to eat once a month or so and support each other by going to each one's shows. There is a cleaning day once a month on a weekend morning. There is a black cat that lives with me in the basement tho he goes upstairs often.

The commute: A 5-7 minute walk to the subways N,R,D,M. Two stops to Canal Street in Manhattan.

You: Clean, responsible, easy going, no drama, friendly, interested in living in a home rather than a dormitory. Preferably a Non-smoker, but if you must it is outside. Non allergic to cats. No other pets.

NO FEE-NEGOTIABLE RENT $2100 / 2br - $2100 Williamsburg

I'm posting this for a friend.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/sub/1167345829.html

We are looking to rent out our two bedroom, one bathroom apartment in Williamsburg. The apartment is located on Graham Ave, off of the Montrose L stop, and minutes from Bedford Ave. Both bedrooms are a very nice size, with two large windows in each. One of the bedrooms has a decorative brick fireplace, and faces a tree-lined street. The back bedroom has fire escape access … perfect for lounging or smoking. The apartment as a whole has really nice wood flooring, chrome appliances, custom lighting, and stone detailing in the bathroom.

Bonus: roof access, Central air, big closets in rooms and shared space area!

Rental agreement would be from June 1st – August 15th, with option to renew.

$2,100 a month, though our landlord is willing to lower the price for the right person. Good credit is a must.

Graham at Scholes

Haha, I think the people who posted above me are my neighbors.

There are 2 bedrooms available in my 3 bedroom loft off of the Montrose L (Scholes & Graham) for June 1. One is $850 and one is $900.

I'm looking for two long-term-ish roommates. No chuckleheads. (You know who you are.)

About the place:
-4 blocks from the Montrose L
-new construction. i was first tenant 2 years ago
-new kitchen appliances
-marble countertops
-hardwood floors
-high ceilings, huge windows, lots of light
-bathtub so deep you could drown
-central air/heat
-backyard
-roof deck
-duplex
-the $900 room is the entire second floor. it has a closet and fits a bed, desk, bookshelves, and coffee table
-the $850 room is a bit smaller but still a decent size. it can fit a bed, bookshelves, and has a closet.
-first and security to move in
-Utilities are about$50-80/person/month.

About the roommates:
I'm a mid-20s vegetarian, female, straight edge, yoga teacher. (Yet, somehow, I don't wear Crocs or listen to Phish. Astounding.) I'm not home a ton, I don't party at home, I keep the place fairly clean, and I'm not looking for a BFF. (We should be cool, but we ain't gotta hang all the time.) You would also be living with 2 cats, Brindle and Noodle. If this is a problem, do not pass go.

About the neighborhood:
It's safe. There is 1 bar close by. There's an organic grocery store. It's not a far walk from places. I like it.

Email me with any questions. I'll be showing the place on Sunday. I look forward to hearing from you! sue dot smith at gmail dot com

Hey IRC friends. Just bumping this one time, since I'm of course doing the obligatory NYC freak out about finding a new place.

Sublet my room for the summer!

Hey friend-os! I am subletting my room in Astoria for the summer because I'm going off to camp. Please pass this along to anyone who might need a room for two months. E-mail me with questions. Thanks!

The dates for the sublet would be June 19th - August 17th. These dates are flexible, especially on the August end. The apartment is located in Astoria, Queens a quick 30 minute subway ride to Midtown Manhattan on the N/W train off the Ditmars stop. The apartment is a seven minute walk from the subway in a great neighborhood with lots of grocery stores, laundromats, restaurants and close to all amenities. And you'd be close to the Bohemian Beer Garden for the summer. Who could ask for anything more?

You would be living in one fully furnished bedroom of a three bedroom apartment. Your roommates would be a couple of fun, clean female professionals. The apartment has a spacious kitchen and shared living room. Your room has a private patio and access to a garden! Rent will be about $750/mo including internet and cable. It'll be about $30 more for electric. Please e-mail me [louie4711@gmail.com] if you're interested!

Hey friends -

We have two rooms available in the awesome Brooklyn loft I live in with a bunch of other mellow creative types.

One is available June 1st, one for July 1st.

It's in the Gowanus/Park Slope area and is HUGE (my room is bigger than the 1 Bedroom I used to live in). I would love to get some creative improv types in here. The CL post is below.

Feel free to pass this on to friends who are not crazy.

Summer sublet right in Hell's Kitchen

Hey guys -

My roommate and I are looking to sublet the 3rd bedroom in our apartment for the summer (June 1st or ASAP). Interested? You should be, because it's quite frankly awesome.

About the place: This is a very spacious apartment floor (1200 ft space!) with fully furnished living room, eat in kitchen(w/dishwasher), dining room and roof access.

Exciting neighborhood (steps to great restaurants, bars and a couple 24 hr delis, diners and such). We're by the whole foods on 59th, and by that super fantastic Amish Market on 9th too. Yay for cooking! And, if you're feeling outdoorsy, it's a 10 min walk to Central Park (or for the sadistic, 10 min to Times Square).

Bedroom is on the courtyard side of the building and is *very* quiet. Big enough for all your stuff. (full size bed is perfect but can fit a queen). Even has a faux fireplace. If you want, we can provide a small dresser, tv, and tv stand, and an queen sized bed for you to sleep on.

This is a terrific home in the heart of Midtown West - Hell's Kitchen, if you're nasty - @51st / Ninth. See for yourself, you will be surprised at how much this apartment offers!

Looking for male/female (nonsmoker) clean, considerate, easy going, to share with an artist/teacher (early 30's) and an improviser/actor/web developer that just moved here from Chicago. We're both really easy going, have great personalities and obviously very humble. There's a lot of positive, creative energy that flows in this apartment, and we'd love for you to contribute to it.

Rent's $1200/mon + utilities.

Interested? You should be, because it's quite frankly awesome. PM or email me (leo@tympanictheatre.org) and we'll make some magic.

Your rent would be cheap - $778/month.

Your apartment would be a block from the 25th Street R train stop - about 25-30 minutes from Union Square.

Affordable awesome Hells Kitchen sublet!

Hi

I have a room in a furnished Hells Kitchen (45th & 9th) apartment that I need to sublet. The room is available for 5-12 months (flexible). It's $1,000 a month with all utilities included, laundry in basement, and you'd have a great roommate. I love the place but I'm traveling next month and have another permanent apartment offer that I want to take. Message me if you're interested, females preferred.

Thanks!
Giulia

My roommate is moving to Minneapolis and we have a room available in our 3 BR apartment for August 1! Spacious, recently renovated, and cheap as hell-- only $502 a month (rent control)! The room is a good size with a big window facing the street and a fire escape, and you'd be living with 2 gals-- myself and another PhD student at NYU. We're a friendly bunch but not in-your-face friendly-- and we've got cable/DVR, wireless internet, etc.

Apartment is off the Q/B train (Newkirk Ave stop) in Ditmas Park/Midwood-- awesome neighbourhood with lots of big Victorian houses and lots of conveniences (Dunkin Donuts, bodegas, laundry, etc). Also a short walk to Cortelyou Road and the fancier bars/restaurants that have awesome brunch. 25 minutes on the B train (weekdays only) to W. 4th street, 25 minutes on the Q to Union Square the rest of the time.

I've yet to post this on Craigslist (so no pictures or anything yet), but email me if you're interested! jennifer.still@gmail.com

A regular guy!
I'm moving at the end of this month (July 1st). I'm currently searching for an apartment in Williamsburg/Greenpoint. I don't have a place yet. Although I have recently come across a really great building that is brand new (still half being built) but will have a doorman/laundry/gym/lounge room (w/ pool tables). Short walk from the Graham Avenue stop. It's a 3BR for $2750. All the rooms are large, one is a master room though with its own bathroom and I expect whomever lives there will pay more (I'll gladly pay more). Oh and the apartment has a balcony as well.

So what's the point of me mentioning all of this? My two other potential roommates seem to be flaking and I would love to jump right on this place before it's too late. Forward this to friends if you know someone.

Ultimately, if this situation falls through I will still need a place to live. So I'm very willing to look with people, or if you have a room available that would be great too.

Thanks for your help!

Looks like the sale of my studio may be falling through. It's a 400 Sq. ft. gorgeous pre-war elevator building on 74th between cpw and columbus. Marble fireplace, loft bed and desk built in, totally renovated.

We'll take $350,000 from a buyer (market value is closer to $400,000, but the building will only allow a full time buyer, no pied a terre's. I would consider a renter provided they would be willing to go short term and allow us to show it and do open houses. We've gotten $2,000 a month in the past, but I'd rent it to someone willing to comply with the open houses for $1700. I'd do a six month lease, and work something out should we sell and close before the end of the term.

If you're interested, or know anyone who might be interested, please call me at 239-872-1105.
