NEXT SESSION BEGINS JULY 9TH!

Improvisers,

Many of us do it for the fun. Less than a handful do it for the money. (Most of you are probably asking--"What Money?")

What if you could do both?

We're in L.A., so become a better actor using your improv skills. Improv is the most sought after "special skill" by agents, managers, and casting directors. It's not just for RENO 911 or ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. It's being asked of actors for nearly all commercial auditions, and a surprising amount of television roles.

An emotional, commited, and bold choice wins over producers every time.

At THE ACTOR'S IMPROV, you'll learn to make bold choices. You'll learn to tell convincing stories. Your improvisation will be fearless because we challenge our fears head on. And we have fun doing it.

Taught by professional improviser & actor David Magidoff, The Actor's Improv guarantees to teach you things you haven't experienced in any other class--ever!

Next session begins the weekend of July 9th.

For registration and class info, please visit www.IMPROVNOW.com.

(Class located at The Actor's Playpen near Sunset/La Brea -- free parking for students.)

Hmm. I guess 11 years or less of improv experience is nifty... except, at least half of those years must have been spent in teen workshops... and performing in college shows... hmm.

$125 seems pretty expensive for four classes.

Dude's always able to take train wreck improv scenes (we've all been in those) and bring them back to a meaningful story. He's ALWAYS committed, always high stakes and his characters are hysterical.

I can understand what he's trying to do - in improv scenes it's always frustrated me that there wasn't better acting or even just plain stagecraft (I'm gonna face upstage because I don't want the audience to think I'm an ACTOR or a PERFORMER! - that's mainly a NYC thing), and when I do scripted jobs it frustrates me 10 times more that these people are scared shitless of improv and the freedom that comes with it. I think this guy sees that there are people on both sides who could use some help.

I had the same idea for classes, so when I get out to LA next year, this guy better watch out.

But hey, good luck!

No offense, but that ain't genius.

There are people in this town who helped change the face of improvisation, who have taught longer than David Magidoff have existed, and charge less.

It's no fair to judge, since I haven't seen him perform. But then, I haven't seen him perform. I haven't heard of him, at all.

I'm extra critical because of his slick websites and market-speak saturated advertisement. The best teachers/performers have terrible or non-existant PR, because they're sinking their time, energy, and money into the product. They fill seats and get students from word of mouth.

To me, this looks like naive ego or an out of work actor looking to pay the bills.

But that's just me.

Make no mistake, I agree wholeheartedly with the idea, but the main reason I haven't started teaching it already is that after 15 years of improv experience with just about everybody in NYC and a year with Boom, I still didn't feel I was ready to teach other people what to do! That's just my own insecurity; the "why the hell should anyone listen to what I've got to say" factor -- if I were 22, I'd expect some apprehension. & skepticism.

But I agree with the actor/improviser idea.

That's what I agree with - and he must have a pretty big pair if he's doing this. Did I just say, "pretty big pair"? yeek.
