I just got back from seeing "Lylice", the one-woman show that my friend Jennells co-wrote and stars in. It is simply the most moving piece of theater I've seen since living in this City. It is stunning; her physical embodiment of such a wide range of characters is enchanting and completely engaging. It has changed the way I think about her as a peer (I'm lucky enough to work with her regularly at CCL), it has changed the way I think about others in general, and it has changed me. It has also inspired me to never put forth anything but my own best efforts when performing, lest I fail to strive for the bar of brilliance that she has now set for me.
I have no idea when this show runs again- it's not at the PIT anytime soon. But you owe it to yourself and your faith in vibrant living theater to pursue it.
Jen- if you're reading this- thank you.
