Testing new home page

I am testing a new front page for the site. It doesn't have all of the components built into it and it's part of a larger overhaul of various pieces of the site, but I thought you might be interested in taking a look at it. I will be updating it when I have time over the next couple of weeks.

A couple of notes about the calendar:

Because of the complicated way that recurring events are stored in the database, I'm having trouble getting them listed reliably on this front page. I hope to have that fixed soon.

Also, the front page only now works for events that have been entered as "Eastern Time" events. I may explore letting you set it to other timezones in the future.

The new homepage can be found here:

Just added a new doodad to the front page: "quality" threads.

Do you think there is a thread that other people should be reading? Make sure to rate the thread. If it has enough votes and is rated high enough, it will show up on the home page as a "quality" thread. This is a way for the veteran users to help focus the boards, so others don't have to sift through a lot of junk to find the "must-see" threads.

Check it out here: http://www.improvresourcecenter.com/index_test.php

Look in the bottom right corner.

I've gone ahead and "published" the new home page. Check out the "quality" threads section. If you don't agree with what are the quality threads. Rate a few threads yourself.

Kevin - is it a SQL issue that is causing the calendar problems? If so, I'd gladly offer my services to help you fix it.

It's not really a SQL issue, it's just that it stores recurring events differently than one time only events. I will need a more clever query to tease out the right information.
