Sweet tea in New York City?

Hey all you transplanted Southerners (and Yankees with a sweet tooth, like me):

New York is full of faux-Southern restaurants. However, other than a few soul food palces in Harlem, I've found that very few places in New York serve good old-fashioned sweet tea. You know, lip-puckering, Bojangles-style sweet tea.

Have you found some here? Have you had any funny experiences trying to purchase sweet tea? Has any upscale "Southern" joint handed you a class of iced tea and a packet of Equal?

Help me find the best sweet tea in the city!

xoxo

Ah...sweet, sweet southern tea! Although I have little hope for your search, Dan, I hope it works! I have yet to find a decent glass of southern-style tea in NYC.

The first time I had lunch in New York, I ordered a tea at a diner. I surprised when the waitress brought me a cup of hot water and a Lipton's bag, because I didn't order "hot tea," I ordered "tea."

The first time I brought a Yankee boyfriend to a BBQ joint in Smyrna, he ordered a tea and had no idea what the waitress meant when she asked, "Sweet or un, hun?"

The huge-haired career waitress in the Furr's cafeteria in my hometown used to troll the dining room with their tea cart offering iced tea in two choices, "sweet" or "un".

If memory serves, The Pink Teacup has a good sweet tea. Can't say the same for their vittles these days.

Dan,

5-Spot Supper Club, corner of Washington Ave and Myrtle Ave in Ft. Greene Brooklyn. And suprisingly enough, the dinky Chinese Food place on the corner of Myrtle Ave and Adelphi Steet nearby.

In Mississippi the choices are (in order of descending waitress approval):

Tea
Hot Tea
Yankee Tea

In the more common restaurants Yankee Tea is offered with Equal or Sweet-n-low.
