Hi everyone reading this,

This is my first journal entry so fittingly I'm going to tell y'all a little about myself and why I'm writing.

My name is JD Friedman and I'm a recent NYC transplant to San Diego. Why's that? Well, aside from the beautiful weather and beaches, I'm studying to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology.

My passion is comedy and humor, and my favorite of these is long form improv. When I lived in NYC I completed a class at Upright Citizens Brigade and hung out at the theater with several friends of mine who are terrific improvisors. With that in mind I'm visiting friends and family back east in about 10 days, and can't wait to take in a few shows at UCB (a shout out to fans of The Swarm, Respecto Montalban, and Tarik Davis).

Point blank, I find people who are creatively comic the most exciting, enjoyable people to be around, and I'm to write my dissertation about the relationship between humor and psychotherapy.

I've already written a short paper for a class called Existential Psychology, which I plan to post online once there's a receptive and interested audience for this journal.

I invite and encourage everyone to share any thoughts and/or random insights about humor and psychology, and also add anything you'd like about the healing power of comedy (including personal anecdotes if you're comfortable doing that).

I'm siked to be starting this journal and hope you'll help me keep the ball rolling with ideas, attitude, and laughs. NO HOLDS BARRED, tell it like you see it. Peace out from the Pacific.

JD
