Standup / Variety database

I'm trying to cobble together a list of standup / variety shows and venues. I'm less interested in pay-to-play open mics, but if they're any good go ahead and list 'em. I've recently started to get serious about doing standup and haven't yet found a comprehensive list for performers.

Here's what I have so far (note: a lot of this info was mined from other sections on the IRC, such as plugs / venues so if something's wrong please let me know. Maybe once we get a big list we can publish it somewhere as a resource). I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious ones.

MONDAY
11 PM: School Night @ UCB
8:30 PM: Comic Rhythm @ 3 of Cups

TUESDAY
8 PM: Royal Wood @ Royal Oak Tavern (BKLN)
8:30 PM: Tuesday Night Train Wreck @ Parkside (open mic)
10 PM: Variety Shac @ Galapagos (BKLN)

WEDNESDAY
7 PM: Drinkietown @ Parkside (www.littlecommie.com/drinkytown/)
8 PM: Ash Wednesday @ Westside Tavern (downstairs)
8 PM: Collective Unconscious ($3 open mic)
8 PM: Invite Them Up @Rififi
11 PM: Hump Night @ UCB
11 PM: Foundation Comedy @ Juvie Hall (www.juviehall.com/foundationcomedy.htm)

THURSDAY
7 PM: Variety Underground @ Parkside
8 PM: Sweet @ Slipper Room
9 PM: $1 Room @ Telepone Bar

FRIDAY
8 PM (8:30?): Sweet Paprika @ Village Lantern
8 PM: Welcome to Our Week @ Rififi

SATURDAY
8 PM: The Shark Show @ Parkside (www.thesharkshow.com)

SUNDAY

Liquid Courage is Friday nights at midnight at UCB. This is sketch but since you wanted a full listing of variety venues I thought I'd mention it.

Ari this is great and ambitious....I'll rack my brain for any additional contributions.

Problem is the often-lack of permanence - Some shows are institutions, some move around after a period of months with respect to location and/or day of week, some go poof in the night (I went to an open mic listed on a fresh-looking web site and found a boarded-up building). There's also once-a-week shows, once-a-month shows....I don't have a solution for this, it's just something I"ve found when trying to track this stuff.

Are you going to try to include booking information too? This may be most useful for open mics and venues not w/in the immediate community. Check also the "performance space" thread for the shows that overlap (ie - VU, Westside Tavern, Drinkytown, etc.)

Hope this helps.

Tuesdays at 9 (9:30, maybe?) there is an open mike at the Alligator Lounge in Brooklyn. I've only done it once and we did improv, but I'm pretty sure the standups didn't have to pay. The guy who runs it is named Steve, and he's very nice.
Also, there's free pizza.

On Monday nights at 10:30 there's "Show and Tell" at the Bowery Poetry Club, with hosts the O' Debra twins. I hear it's got a "similar vibe to Collective Uncon", you can get "away with almost anything". It's $3 or "$4," and you could go up "really late, but I just leave and come back if it's over an hour." Good times, Liam "McEnooner rocks that shit sometimes." And isn't Train Wreck "like eight million dollars?"

Totem is no more (alas - sold!) and Apocalypse Lounge is now a booked monthly show, by Margot Leitman, if I am correct and I believe I am. But do verify this first.

The O'Debra's Show and Tell Monday nights is indeed the best open mic around. And if they like you, you might get booked as an opening act that gets ~20 min each Monday.

Plus, my girlfriend is Tanya O'Debra so you will be helping her pay me rent.

The Morrison Motel on Wed is the best booked open mike. They give prizes if you stay and watch the whole show like a Bill Hicks DVD and A season of Seifeld on DVD.

To get booked at the 8:30pm or 10:30pm show email John Morrison at morrison@inch.com
