Solo Show

#1
I am attempting a solo show -- NOT A ONE-WOMAN SHOW, BECAUSE THAT MAKES IT SOUND ALL GIRLY. It may or may not be girly, I dunno; the point is, I don't want that kind of content to be assumed.

This journal is to keep me on-track.

STEP ONE: GET A SLOT.

I figured that this would be more important than, say, finishing a script, because I didn't want to put in the effort for nothing. And I am happy to say that, thanks to the kindness of Owen Burke and the UCBT, I will be making my solo show debut on September 13th at SPANK.

YES!

STEP TWO: GET A DIRECTOR.

Again, I have met with good fortune, as one of my favourite comediennes in the world, Jackie Clarke, has agreed to direct my show. This will rock!

YES!!

STEP THREE: WRITE A SHOW.

Aw, crap.

... well?

STEP THREE: WRITE A SHOW

Yeah, I'm still stuck here. It's beginning to dawn on me that setting up a date for a show is not quite the motivator I thought it would be.

I did start to write, but I'm already bored with what I've got. The Recalcitrant Bitch in me wants to do any kind of show but a solo one. Maybe I should listen to RB. Or maybe I should write a show about writing a show? -- But Charlie Kaufman did that already, and with a better cast than I would get.

At this moment in time, it will either be a one-woman show about a former child star, or a trial run of my pet project, San Francisco Abortion Clinic ... the most commercial, Broadway-ready musical that's never been written. To paraphrase Hamlet, it out-Rents Rent.

Right now, I'm leaning towards SFAC. Recalcitrant Bitch would be pleased.

Hmmm

STEP THREE: WRITE A SHOW

It's amazing how good a procrastinator I can be if I work at it.

I now have three open writing projects: the aforementioned solo show, the aforementioned San Francisco Abortion Clinic project, and my first novel, which will be a combo of chick lit and memoir, and will (hopefully) garner me the cash and celebrity to write more and work less.

Every time I sit down to write one, I end up writing one of the other two, as a way to procrastinate. And none of them are progressing very well at that.

I'm hoping that on June 21st when I see STOMPING GROUND's Spank show, I will be moved to finish something so I can work on putting it up.
