1. Happy Birthday Brian!

2. I felt that such a numbers-oriented post was best left to Stat Man.

Additionally, I originally felt Satan's insipid and poorly written post wasn't worth a response. After posting, and subsequently editing my post, I feel even more strongly about that. He's just another loudmouth with a loudmouth opinion. Why should I care what he thinks -- especially when Mother is one of the few teams he seems to like?

attention! look at me!

hey everyone. ditto what the rest said... i thot to comment, then thot better of it, now i'm thinking better of that.

The best way to fight anger is with love! just assume it must have been a joke. It must have! There *is* a smile at the beginning.... Love love love love love.

Here is the funny:

Billy (or anyone) making money off of improv. Rich rich rich!

Kevin using his position to get laid (and that someone would think that is a *bad* thing!) Isn't that our primary motivator for *everything* we do, in a way? Why we get up on stage...Why we get up in the morning?

Ha ha ha ha love love love.
Ok I'm done.

Dear Original Poster:
It's probably very normal to feel completely awful after not getting picked for or thrown off a team. I know I did; I've seen other people feel terrible in those circumstances, too.
BUT in a few months, the rage'll pass and you may feel better and feel like "Hey, I really miss improv. I'd like to get back into class and start working at it again."
So I'd advise raging only to a few close, trusted friends who understand you need to vent. And if there's a teacher you really like, discuss it (respectfully) with them.
It's not fair to say nasty things about people who got on teams. They deserve to be on them. Don't drive your teachers crazy; I think I put Armando unfairly on the spot and would love to apologize to him.
So feeling the rage and hurt and sorrow are all ok. But watch your behavior - grace in bad times is a wonderful thing and may make you feel better.
That's my thoughts, anyhow.

Sorry I'm Black

I feel bad for satan. If I'd of known my race would hold him back I would of just left it at home.

But seriously guy...I hope your able to get all of the stuff off your chest and move on. It's bad for your shit to be that angry. And let's be serious I don't think anyone wants an all white/ all male theater.

The UCB theater is a great place and a good school no matter what you think. Does it have problems?, yes, is it curupt and bent on the destruction all things good, no... that's what Satan is (not you but the real Satan).

So move on brother, there is plenty of improv in the city. Come take my class.

A bore

Dearest Satan-o-rific,

By using a litany of simplistic subject/verb sentences, you have created a diatribe I cannot seem to finish reading. I have given the selection to my eight year old niece for analysis and will report my opinion as soon as I am able. With regards to future written arguments, I suggest dictating your thoughts to someone more competent in the medium.

Just trying to help.

Love,
Kevin

Where there's smoke there's fire..

I agree that Satan's rant was COMPLETELY uncalled for. It was rude, destructive and mean.

Kudos to all of you who have worked to build the theatre up to the great success it is. It must be somewhat thankless and certainly not a big money maker (my guess is that this is true even for Billy) and what you've accomplished is amazing.

But, the theatre is hitting a critical point. I heard that over 100 people auditioned for 8 slots Sunday. Those odds are really daunting and it does feel a little like new kids don't get much of a chance. And lets face it, there are teams that are struggling. Maybe an infusion of new blood could do some good.

I'm not sure how to solve it, but, let's face it, managing teams will be even more difficult as the word spreads. It would be great to have a productive dialog about it. I know Chicago and LA do things a little differently in both good and bad ways.

Do it the old fashioned way.

Form your own teams, book rehearsal space and perform. I'm sure these guys would like more teams to coach as well. There's just no more room at UCB.

IO, Annoyance, & Playground were all started this way. Be a trendsetter.

I second that emotion.

Hello Magic Susie and Lobster took the proactive approach and have done good work. If enough such teams were started, and if the quality was consistently high (a big if), the teams could band together and the economies of scale would make it easier to afford a space and advertising for an open run.

It's so fucking obvious.

Re-read the original post. Did you catch it? OK. Read it again. There! You see! Only one person could be that self-important, that egomaniacal, that cruel! "Satan" is really... Brian Stack.

Folks, in all my life I have never met a more callous and evil person. Anyone who has EVER even MET him knows what I mean. Brian, please stop the hating. Enough already with the hating!

Wait. Did I say Brian Stack? I meant Kevin Mullaney.

Seriously, I could tell 1,000,000 Mullaney/generosity stories. But I'm tired. This is a guy who coached my team for 2 years. He stopped accepting payment from us early on, because he felt that we deserved to keep our money- he merely asked for the chance to direct us in return. He fought our battles against Ms. HelpEarn and was always there for us. I have never had a better coach or a wiser teacher.

And anyone who disagrees with what I said about Kevin Mullaney can cram it with walnuts.

Wait. Did I say Kevin Mullaney? I meant Brian Stack.

:p-

Jed,

Whatever I am, as Dick Rude says in "Repo Man"... 'I blame society.'

Of course, he also says, "Let's go get sushi and not pay!" and that also explains a lot.

See you at the 20th, I hope! Sorry I couldn't get by for "The Hot Karl".
