1. The First Ever Chico's Pizza Jam
"When the Monday Night Improv Jam moved from the Climate to Off-Market last December, I was excited about moving closer to Chico's Pizza (131 6th St.). Their slices are extra enormous, and there's something about the cheese and crust that keeps me coming back. On Monday, prior to the Jam, we'll have hot, fresh Chico's Pizza, including meat & veggie. Not only am I sure you'll love it, but you'll also find that it leads to better improvisational theater (not confirmed)."

3. Beatnik Syndicate/Night of 1000 Games
the beatnik syndicate in...THE NEXT BEAT GENERATION:
(A monthly ongoing-show at the Off Market Gallery)
the beatnik syndicate features San Francisco improvisers Kate Kotler, Joel Dovev, Mike Della Penna, Michael Danzansky, Julie Potter and David Allen in a unique blend of improv, performance poetry and jazz - three art forms with deep roots in San Francisco history.
Always fresh, interesting and fun - the troupe performs monthly in a variety of formats (the Poet/Armando, the Hook, the Montage Poem) which play with the connection between improv, spoken word performance, poetry, a Capella music and freestyle rap and blend together into a performance which is unlike any improv you've seen before! Often featuring special guests from the SF "slam" and music scenes... not to be missed!
The Night of 1000 Games is a shortform improv theater jam brought to you by the San Francisco Improv Co-operative. A mix of our most favorite (and feared) improv games are drawn from a hat, explained, and played by courageous attendees. The Night of 1000 Games: You either want to play Party Quirks, or you need to face your fear!

5. 6 Harolds
The SFIC is proud to offer our recurring workshop 6 Harolds in May. Facilitated by members of the San Francisco Improv Co-operative, 6 Harolds is exactly as it sounds: a plunge into the classic "training-wheels" Harold six times over. Exhausting and exhilarating, it's the SFIC's requested workshop. A class limit of 14 ensures that everyone in the class will play 4 and watch 2. Each 30 minute longform is followed by a brief notes session. Workshop includes regular breaks. As 6 Harolds is more about practice than instruction, some longform experience and a basic understanding of the Harold form is helpful.

FEE: $40 general, $30 with Frequent Player Card

Musical Accompaniment for Improvisation
with Joshua Brody
A hands-on workshop: improvising actors will be on hand to create sample scenes for students to accompany; underscoring spoken word scenes and spontaneous song creation, long-form/short-form issues, different strategies, problems and solutions based on musicians' skills and experience will be discussed. Improvisors who are not musicians but are interested in these themes are also welcome. (Looking for an accompanist? This might be your golden opportunity.)
Joshua Raoul Brody has been BATS's musical director since shortly after its inception, and has been accompanying improvisation since 1979 with Robin Williams, the Comedy Store Players, War Babies, Faultline, Femprov, Screaming Memes, Greg Proops and Micheal McShane, Spaghetti Jam, Papaya Juice, LATS, and European tours with Pros From Dover, as well as BATS founding members Fratelli Bologna.
He himself was a founding member of Pulp Playhouse and its descendant, True Fiction Magazine, and is principal accompanist for Three For All. He has co-taught song improvisation since the early 1980s with Barbara Scott, Brian Lohmann, and solo; many of these classes have been through BATS but he has also taught at Stanford, UC Berkeley, College of Marin, at the Ashland Shakespeare Festival, in Portland, Seattle, Austin, Los Angeles, London, Helsinki, and Japan. He and Ms. Scott are currently thinking about writing a book about song improvisation. Thinking real hard.

Find Your Light: Lighting for Improvisation
with Tara McDonough
A general overview. Including talking briefly about how the lights work and how to change a lamp. Go over the board, general booth stuff, a bit more "theatrical" theory, and a tiny side trip about pre- and post-show stuff. Most of the workshop will be hands on practice-- people take turns being in scenes and watching from the booth, starting and ending scenes. At first it's just straight beginnings and endings, we will move into how to pimp your lightician and how to respond to being pimped (flipping "lightswitches," talking about moonlight or weather conditions, etc.)
Taught by Tara McDonough of Un-Scripted Theater. Tara as been a lighting improver for several years working with such groups as True Fiction Magazine, 3 for All, Star Trekking and How we first Met.
