[sf] I Eat Pandas - The Music Improv Workshop

#1

I Eat Pandas is coming to San Fran for the SFIF July 13-15, and we will be running a music improv workshop while we're there!

Where: The Climate Theater (285 9th St. @ Folsom, 2nd Floor)
When: Saturday, July 15th from 12pm to 3pm
How Much: $75, but $40 for Seniors, Students, and SF Improv Alliance Email Members

A 3-hour intensive session where participants will be able to learn the basics of improvised singing from all three members of I EAT PANDAS, as well as improve on already possessed musical improv skills (if applicable). Topics to be covered include: recognizing and initiating verse/chorus and tagline songs, infusing songs with character and emotion, and ending songs with style! Although prior singing experience is helpful, it is not required- but participants must be comfortable singing in front of others. Prior (non-singing) improvisational experience, however, is a must, as this workshop will use those skills to enhance the improv singer that lies hidden in all of us!

You guys, Travis is a REALLY GREAT teacher. He takes all the anxiety out of musical improv and replaces it with awesomeness.

highly recommended that you take this workshop.

i was in a musical improv class taught by eliza (I Eat Pandas member) and after the course was over, about 10 of us have continued on being coached by her in a private group. that's how much we loved the class and musical improv.

musical improv is one of the most challenging things i've ever done but it's so rewarding and super fun. and this group is awesome. do this!

p.s. for anyone worried about not having a "great voice," i assure you, it's so much more about having fun and letting loose than having a perfect voice. promise.

Yes! Take this workshop! I love watching I Eat Pandas, they are one of my favorite groups around, and I took Eliza's class! She's an excellent teacher - fun, supportive, and gives clear directions. She really knows the craft, so learn from her!

Definitely do not miss out on taking this class!

I took Eliza Skinner's musical improv workshop through UCB. The majority of our class was so enthusiastic about what Eliza taught us, that we organized a rehearsal group, and we were lucky enough to continue with Eliza!

She is a patient teacher, who really knows her craft. If you're goal is to actually LEARN from someone who knows their shit, then this class is for you!

You will start out being shitty - mediocre.
You will learn structure.
You will laugh as your learn.
You will improve.
You will leave wanting more.

If you take this workshop, you will never forget how much fun you had and you will leave in awe of everyone in the room, including yourself.

I'm also a student of Eliza's. Her instruction and presence is a clear-as-a-bell breath of fresh air.

You won't regret taking it, but you may regret missing out.

Ahh...How much do I love Eliza, musical improv, and I Eat Pandas?

Enough to roll myself down to the Kips Bay Branch library, while my laptop is broken, sit in a line of derelicts and homeless people for thirty-five minutes with no air conditioning, log onto a byzantine system that's giving me a maximum of 38 minutes to post that might as well be called Computer Nazi, and post a plug for these peeps on the Improv Resource Center.

No Internet for you!

But much musical enlightenment for all who seek it from these peeps!

fun and useful - better than Saran Wrap

I took two musical improv classes with Eliza, having had zero prior experience. It was a lot of fun, but also really useful in terms of boosting my confidence when doing straight-up improv scenes. It forces you to listen, and to commit hard. Making up a whole song on the spot and belting it out is such a powerful skill. Not many improvisers are willing to take that risk onstage, and what is improvisation but a whole life lesson in risk-taking? Whip it out for group games, or if a scene is really tanking and you feel the need to at least lighten up the mood for yourself, start singing and see where it takes you.

Taking the musical improv class felt a lot like taking my very first improv class. The support you get from your workshop/classmates is phenomenal. Everyone is scared, and we're all rooting for one another. Everyone cheers for everybody else. It's a great feeling to re-live.

Musical improv is a skill that not many improvisers have. If you're feeling stagnant or frustrated about your improv, musical improv is a perfect pick-me-up, and you'll become an even more valuable improviser.

I Eat Pandas is a fantastic, critically-acclaimed group that will teach the f*&^*** !^%& out of you. Take it!
