Searches

I don't understand how the searches do or do not work. Sometimes I'll type in two words and it will pull up all those threads. Sometimes it tells me I need to type in four or more. Sometimes I do that and it tells me I still need to type in more than four. Then if you make a mistake with word counts it doesn't let you re-try your search for another minute. Is this working correctly?

Four or more refers to how many letters must be in a word. For instance, "sex" can't be searched.

As for the rest of searching, its always seemed to me that the search engine only cares about the first word you enter in a series of words. "Dog cat scratch" would only search "dog," but I may very easily be wrong about this latter part.

Eugene is partially correct. It will only search for words that are 4 letters or more.

However, if you ask to search for more than one term, it should only give you results where both words are present.

I am so relieved to see this thread. I was thinking I was too stupid to do a simple search. I'm working on that self-image thing.

Thread hijack ahead:

Hey Mullaney, I understand the purpose of the 60 second delay between searches, but have issues simmered down to the point that this could be tweaked lower? I'm a bad typist, and there are too many options on the advanced search for me to get it right every time. And to wait a minute because I wanted results as posts instead of threads -- that wastes company time.

Maybe 20 seconds? Wishful thinking? Have you covered this before?

Maybe it would be okay. I haven't really thought about it for a while. There are 160+ people here at the daily peak.
