Any talented friends of mine want to make a Miles Davis style film noir score for a video I shot? And how are you all doing?

Fine, thanks. Two questions:
1 - Was this an intentionally wink-wink thread title?
2 - Do you need original music or a mix of already-existing pieces?

1. It was not an intentionally wink-wink title. I do not pick up on jokes well, even when I accidentally make them.

2. I need someone to originally do it. It's a ridiculously unfair request I am making!

Thank you everyone for your advice! I do appreciate it.

MotorDolly, where are such libraries? Do the BootyOlympics use these libraries in times of crisis? But no seriously, do you mean like music libraries one purchases, and when one purchases one purchases the right to use their music in productions?

People have been helpfully emailing me, and thank you! Unfortunately I am offering my usual payment of nothing for this.

with royalty free, you'd be purchasing the track(s) for your video and not have to make any future/additional payments. at times, the quality lacks in royalty-free libraries, but there are some decents ones out there. you may find what you're looking for.

ps. please update your life. we changed our name to santa marias 2+yrs ago. i don't know how you've been coping.

Non Royalty Music!

The Getty has a pretty nifty searchable database, you may find something in the jazz section.

There's also Podsafe Audio which I hear has a nice selection.

Or you could do the John Carpenter thing, get a casio keyboard and just hit some simple notes over and over again.

This is the perfect thread.

(Hey, Will - I don't know whether this has to be a trumpet per se, but doesn't this sound like a job for James Eason?)

This is actually a very handy thread and I'm only realizing just now I should have started this in the Digital forum. My apologies. But helpful stuff! And the bits are decent!

[insert snarky/crude joke about 'playing the flute' here]
[insert semi-helpful comment about copyright]
[take a nap as people continue with snappier bits]

Oh! Will... you could also ask (or I could ask for you) this guy. He used to be the musical director of Chicago City Limits and he's also an accomplished jazz musician.

Hey Will, when are you going to use this thread to teach me how to make a notch or incision in a piece of wood? I'm dyin' over here.

The word score has multiple meanings!

Will,
The World Baseball Classic is almost here. Am I going to learn how to fill out these scorecards before the Dominicans play the Japanese?

C'mon IRC, just a few more meanings left!
