Saving a journal

Mullaney, do you know off the top of your head if there's a simple way for me to save my journal to disc?

It occurs to me that if something were to happen, I could lose all I've written. I want to make sure I can go back and read it at will at any time. I'm also seriously considering taking my journal writing offline, if this computer ever appears stable enough to not worry me. That is the main reason I decided to blog online, after all - I kept saving it to my hard drive, and my hard drive kept having to be wiped and reinstalled. That gets old, ya know?

So now that I have seven months worth of diary in one place, I'm thinking it's probably going to be a major pain in the ass to save it. I know I can cut and paste into Wordpad, but that has to be done one entry at a time, leaving off the buttons. I know, I've tried to paste an entire page, the buttons don't agree with Wordpad at all. I'd really like to save it exactly as it is, colors, all of it. I just don't know how.

Any thoughts?

You can save the source html using an ordinary browser. If you are using a windows machine. Go to your journal and right click on the page. You should get an option to "save page as". Do that for each page of your journal.

If I think of a better way, I'll post it later.

You'll have fewer pages to save if you got to "user cp" then "edit options" then set "Default Posts per Thread" to 40. Be sure to set it back when you're done of you'll go crazy.

Also note that if you want a more lightweight copy of your journal, just cut and paste the pages into Notepad and clean them up by hand. it will take up less disc space than saving every page.

Hey, that's a great tip, thanks!

And actually, I DO want every single post saved, but my God there's a bunch of them...cleaning them up by hand will take forever and ever. Well okay, so it only seems that way, but still a really long time. I've lost track, but it's probably over 200 posts by now.

I have to wait until the kids are in bed to even try to mess with it, or the constant interruptions will drive me completely insane.
