INSTRUCTORS
ROBERT MELLO directed and created the critically acclaimed "naked" featuring Jim Carrane and Stephanie Weir as well as "Drive" for The Playground and "Shards" at the Improv Olympic. A member of the Chicago improv community for over ten years, Rob improvised with the house team "Mr. Blonde" at IO as well as the mainstage of "The Improvisation". He is a respected acting teacher and coach, formerly of the Artistic Home. As an actor, he is currently appearing in the Journeymen's production of "Lillies."
MONICA PAYNE is slated to appear in Steppenwolf's production of Uncle Vanya in June of 2001. She recently understudied for the "House of Lily" in the Steppenwolf Garage, and "The Weir" on the Steppenwolf Mainstage. She has worked with other Chicago companies, including Famous Door, The Hypocrites, Collaboraction, and Blue Man Group. She is also a reformed improviser, having played on a house team at Improv Olympic for 3 years. She has taught Meisner technique at The Artistic Home and is a graduate of The School at Steppenwolf.
CLASSES
REPETITION - A good actor or improviser must be emotionally free and have the capability to make strong, unapologetic choices in their scripted or improvised scenes. They must be able to follow their physical impulses and be vulnerable to themselves and their acting/improv partner. Like any artist, they must be brave and willing to take risks. The repetition exercise is the building block for all of this and more. This is an OPEN LEVEL class- those who have never participated in repetition are invited to attend.
INSTRUCTOR: MONICA PAYNE
COST: $125
CLASS LIMIT: 12
DATES: MONDAYS - MAY 7/14/21 & JUNE 4/11/18. (NO CLASS 5/28)
TIME: 6-8PM
PLACE: WNEP THEATER, 3209 N HALSTED
SCENE STUDY - Actors will receive one or two scene assignments in this six-week course, depending upon their progress with the scene. Actors should be prepared to meet with their scene partner at least once a week outside of class and have their scenes fully memorized. This is an OPEN LEVEL class, novice to advanced. Focus will be on the relationship in the scene.

RELATIONSHIPS IN IMPROVISATION - This class provides a key to the much sought after, yet misunderstood aspect of improv: the "relationship driven" scene. For the intermediate to advanced improviser, "Relationships in Improvisation" combines the Meisner Acting technique with improvisation to create scene work that is dynamic, honest, and driven by the moment to moment relationship with each other, rather then "games" or other externals. Using Sanford Meisner’s Repetition exercise, actors will become emotionally free and able to bring their greatest asset to the stage: themselves. A tough and challenging class for anyone who wants to bring a new level of depth to their work.
