Kula and I live on 8th Ave at 30th St. Last night there were 200 Chinese protesters sitting on our block. At one point they were joined by 100 cops on motorcycles.
Today there is the "Still We Rise" rally going on outside. The Krishna's haven't stopped banging their cymbals for like 5 hours.
I took some good shots out our window, and then went up on the roof to take some more. After about 5 minutes a cop who was on a neighbor's roof, walked down and we had this exchange:

Cop: Where are you staying, sir?
Me: In my apartment, which is downstairs.
Cop: You're going to have to leave the roof.
Me: Really?
Cop: I think you can use obvious common sense to figure out why.
Me: Ok.
pause
Me: I'm sorry, but why exactly do I have to go?
Cop: THINK ABOUT IT. TERRORISTS? PROTESTERS? We don't want someone to throw things off the roof at the crowd.
Me: Ok.
(I'm clearly walking to the ladder to leave.)
Cop: So you need to leave now unless you want to leave in cuffs.
Me: (laughing) Ok!
Cop: Well those guys (points at other cops across the street) were getting upset that you were up here.
Me: Ok.
(I leave)
