Rififi closing?

Awhile back, Robert (owner) had to go month-to-month on the lease.

As a result, there were no terms for a lease, no rules, etc...so it seems as though the landlord (who has always had a problem with the venue and the ownership) jacked up the rent for this month, pretty suddenly.

There's still another day to work out an agreement, before the first, but with the decline in bar attendance (not necessarily show attendance..shows have been fairly well-attended in '08) it'll be hard for the place to keep up with any sort of hike.

Rififi used to make a ton of money off the late-night parties like Trash but noise complaints put a stop to those...

Wow. Robert was always a fair and good person to deal with. When we had to move out of the old theater (UCB) and were looking for a new place, I worked out a deal to have Harold night there for a while. A lot of great shows (WPA project comes to mind immediately) workshopped there.

But Robert was never a smart business man, unfortunately. I am still convinced that I made more money (and I hardly made a dime) putting on shows there than he did.
