Providence Improv Fest 3 Time! 6/28-7/2!

Thursday night's shows

Gonna start the discussion of what I've seen at the fest so far.

Thursday night I saw two sets: Inside Jokes, and Razowsky & Clifford

Inside Jokes is a RI team that I've seen previously (and I perform with two of the team's members). Last night they did something new (at least to me) and threw some sketch/musical pieces into their set. Pretty hilarious stuff, particularly the entire-group acapella song about the garden of eden. I encourage anyone interested to check out the new Inside Jokes action.

Razowsky & Clifford did a two-person set. Hadn't seen Razowsky perform before, and I liked his format with Clifford. They had a good dynamic on stage, moving chairs around between each two person scene and then doingn characters based on that. It was nice to see a very complex relationship being played out in each scene that led to some very funny moments. Technically speaking, the improv was excellent. Razowsky is particularly fun to watch as he mimes his way into creating a very detailed environment.

Why I Love Providence:

1. You can stay in a hotel while it is undergoing a complete renovation.
2. Dunkin Donuts has its own basketball team and concert venue.
3. People will not run you over when you cross against the light. They actually stop, get out of their car, hug you, and walk you across the street.

4. It is the home of the ass-kickingest improv festival that I have ever been to.

Code Duello was super! Although I'm biased, being a big specific-history geek and all. All the groups I saw were great, wish I could've gotten to more of them.

Having two workshops in an unairconditioned third-story space....kinda sweaty. Fortunately the workshops were terrific and I had about two quarts of water.

All the Festival staff were super nice and cool. Thanks!

Thank you very much! We had a blast at both our shows, and the other sets I got to see were excellent. I have to strongly agree that everybody working the festival was super-nice and cool. I'll add "professional," "inviting," and "organized" to that list of praise.

My only gripe about the festival was that nobody was able to explain the tradition of WaterFire to my satisfaction. I spent the whole weekend thinking of historical events that might have spawned a Guy-Fawkes-esque festival of lighting shit on fire. Did an oil tanker explode? Was there a really impressive sunset one year? Did Rhode Island natives repel an attack by igniting their canals?

Unfortunately, Google now informs me it was just an commissioned art installation, which has grown into a seasonal festival. Booooring.

Hooray for Providence!

Scotcatory Tape had a great time. Hotels are fun and providence is very nice and clean.

Oh, yeah, and improv shows/workshops are all right too.

Congrats to everyone who performed! From the shows I saw and the people I got to play with in workshops it looks as though Providence was full of talent this weekend!

You're welcome Providence.

I EAT PANDAS had a fabulous time as well!

Hey... if anyone reading this thread was at our workshop that we held during the fest, could you email us some feedback on it? We are looking for some quotes for press material, as well as general feedback on how to make it even better the next time we do it!

Direct all comments to pandaeaters@gmail.com

Thanks again, guys and gals! See you next year in Providence!

Gunshow had a good time, too. Thanks to Mauro for another great weekend. Sorry I had to ditch at brunch!

And thanks to Gunshow's own Matt Stinton's generous supplying of the B.B.Burgerbrau Keg for the parties. Your drunken manning of the keg was truely appreciated.

If you missed our shows you should know that you probably missed the only Ferret raping a cat or testicular reclaimation scenes at the whole thing. I'm pretty sure of that.
