Planning stages - Dublin Improv

Just to point out: we *will* be holding a "support the International Improv Festival" night out in a pub in Dublin. We may hold several between now and April. People pay a small donation to support the show and enjoy a night with interesting people and beer.

I thought we might post pics of such event (with permission) on a website to promote buzz.

The notion of this happening simultaneously in the USA also appealed to me.

Any West-coast Improvers interested in holding a fund-raising night on a given date in your local Irish pub, along the same lines? Same question goes out to Illinois Improv folk. Even if you can't make it to Ireland, you can still help make it happen, and have a fun night out with amusing people.

The cause? Bringing North American Improv to the starved Irish masses! As far as long-form Improv goes, we really *are* undernourished.

Money raised in USA will go towards the North American performers who will come over.

Give or take on either side? Or if it moved, would it be a whole other weekend?
It's probably best to do it on a weekend, for a bigger crowd.

Does midweek suit people better? I guess tickets might be cheaper.

Has anybody called any airlines asking about flights to Ireland and how much they cost?

If some angel (sponsor, cultural body) on the Irish side is interested in helping our costs, it might be useful to know how much you need to raise to get over here. I'm making no promises, but it never hurts to know. :)

I didn't mean that mid-week would be better, sorry to confuse.
I meant if it's not that weekend, (since you said it was tentative) are you thinking it would be the weekend before or after, or a whole other month or....what?
For that weekend, the cheapest airfare I've seen from L.A. is on Aer Lingus.
It's $640 or something. And that's non-stop. I put in the 17th departure and the 24th, return.
Just to get an idea.

$640? Is that about the same for people in the middle and the east?

It's a lot more to go the other direction, lemme tell ya.

Okay, we can work with that.

Basically, the date can move if there's a good reason to do so. If half the performers need to cancel because of the date, that's a good reason.

We had our Dublin side committee meeting today. Very productive.

Sorry, I have been a bit quiet about this, but count me in both for being there, and for any support that I can offer.

I will see if I can get any Londoners involved too, if you want.

Sam, that would be fantastic. Please put them in touch with me.

Deez I'd rather set aside a date and keep it firm, and let people make plans. Otherwise the promotional stuff will be a royal mess. There's always going to be some people who have issue with the specific dates. As long as they're not conflicting with a holiday or another festivel then let's keep it.

People should also investigate BA fares to London (often cheap) and then a short-hop to Dublin on Aer Lingus or EasyJet or RyanAir.

:)

This is true.

And also means that some of you may get lucky enough to share a flight with me. (Don't let that put you off though...)

From L.A. that doesn't help. In fact it ends up being more than $100 more, not including getting over to Dublin from London.

I'll look again after the holidays.

Dublin improv group- The Craic Pack would love to help out & get involved

Hi there,

Got to hear about the Dublin Improv festival thru some contacts I made while in US recently and love the idea.

Being a Dublin-based comedy improviser we have been talking about such a festival for some time now but no-one has gotten off their lazy asses (including me!!) to do anything about it- so great news indeed!!

I am part of the Craic Pack Improv troupe and would love to be added to your list of groups who would like to participate and if we can help in any way just let us know.

Check us out on www.thecraicpack.com

DO we have to officially apply or something and if so, where do we go to do that?

Aer Lingus offers a direct roundtrip for around $555 from JFK. That was what I got when I searched for 4/17-4/23.

I'd recommend keeping the date firm not only for pr, but also because people who are definitely going would probably want to buy tickets sooner, rather than later. You never know when the price will start spiking.

Are there any kind-hearted Irish folk who will allow a foul-mouthed New Yorker to sleep on their floor?

Just a suggestion, Deez... do you know how you would "curate" this festival, if that's the right word? How would you go about choosing who's in the festival?

Very very true.

I think floor space will be available. I dunno what kinda $$$ we'll get from sponsors and fundraisers.

Who's into looking for a group dorm in a hostel?

For a lone female, Hostelling International offers a bed for 19 euros per night. That's about 25 USD.

I'm not even sure I'll be able to afford this, but I'm excited at the thought of it! It makes me want to put together an improv group just to go to this festival.
