PJI Presents Ladies And Gentlemen in:

Rodgers and Hammerstein Are Dead

Rodgers and Hammerstein Are Dead – but the show must go on! In this fully improvised musical comedy, the men and women of Ladies and Gentlemen turn a single audience suggestion into the next Sound Of Music. Every note, every word, every kickline is made up on the spot. Comedy! Drama! Ingenues! Midwestern States! All the qualities of the legendary songwriting duo, without all that “preparation.” The King and I would approve!

Directed by Jason Stockdale. Musical Direction by Joe Gribbin.

Starring Kennedy Allen, Mark Bringhurst, Olivia R. Brubaker, Rob Cutler, Olwyn Conway, Apple Milkshake, Joe Sabatino, Kristen Schier, Kelly Vrooman, and Alan Williams.

Whoa. I don't think I've ever been a VIP before. Unfortunately, I think I'll have Tempest rehearsal opening night. I'll probably have to wait until after The Tempest, my other show and Gravedigger (Cutler's other show) are over to see R&H in the last days. This makes me very sad, but hopefully you all will have it perfected by then.

A mixed up girl from Tallahassee falls for a traveling adventure seeker, but eventually finds her way back to Mr. Librarian with some help from her friend who smells like curry and has seventeen babies. ("Pearls Of Wisdom")

AND....

The muddy waters of the Amazon lead a young man to find love, roguish outlaws with Cheetos addictions, and a demi-god who controls the animals. Eventually he does make it home in time to spackle the house like his parents asked. ("Faster, Faster, You Fool!")

I am very excited to see this show. It reminds of me of my Choosical days. <sigh>

It'll be nice to see a local group do an improvised musical again.

Tonight will feature the same great musical improv theatre you can come to expect from Ladies and Gentlemen

PLUS

A bonus post-show performance from Philly improv legends Karen Getz and Kelly Jennings. If you saw their show in January, you know you're in for a treat. And if you missed the production, well here's your chance to catch the magic without all the trouble of building a time machine!

Cecily and Gwendolyn's Fantastical Paranormal and Quantum Entanglement Experiment!

Cecily and Gwendolyn are two slightly mad Victorian time travelers created by Karen Getz and Kelly Jennings. In this completely improvised, two-person, audience-interactive extravaganza, these self-proclaimed social anthropologists will indulge their side hobby of correcting the course of human history through the use of paranormal activities and quantum entanglement.

A young lady in Alaska finds warmth and love with the help of a King who blocks out the sun but can't block out his heart. ("Neptune Strikes Again")

A FEW HOURS AGO AT R&H ARE DEAD:
A man and his sister venture to Guinea to break free from their family, finding a world of brothels, tigers, and eventually love. Not with each other, though, despite Grandpa's advice. ("Grandma Knits a Hat")

Rodgers and Hammerstein Are Dead is getting some love. First, a nice preview in the City Paper. And now, a great review in the Inky!

Endless thanks to all of the cast/crew/artistic team/patrons/donors. Even Jason? Especially Jason. But especially Grib.

(milkshake, that last bit was just for you)

LAST NIGHT AT R&H ARE DEAD:
A young woman who trusts everyone quickly finds a reason not to trust anyone when her father gets mixed up in the Tunisian casino underworld. She later falls in love with a dashing librarian . . . but is love possible for a woman who cannot trust? "Yes," says a camel. ("On the Back of a Camel")

A FEW HOURS AGO AT R&H ARE DEAD:
A good ol' boy in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, mourns the death of his hamster, meets a nice girl, and accidentally gets her pregnant within a few hours. Later, the hamster's ghost forces him to make a pivotal choice via a dream ballet that transcends our worldly notions of life and death. ("Oh those Hamsters!" or something like that)

A FEW HOURS AGO AT R&H ARE DEAD:
An upper-Peruvian hot dog stand operator expands his empire into downtrodden lower Peru. But before he can bulldoze a single plank of the lower Peruvian boardwalk, a gentle woman shows him a love as beautiful and undefinable as the 2'x2' area that separates upper and lower Peru. ("Midnight at the Hot Dog Stand")

LAST NIGHT AT R&H ARE DEAD:
Everyone is a star in Nashville! But when everyone's the same, no one stands out?!? A young ticket seller becomes an overnight sensation in "Stomp!" but loses her kindness along the way. With the help of a brother/sister team from Brooklyn (no one's a star in New York City!) and the curmudgeonly Mayor, she realizes her mistakes and finds her true place. "Scratch Ticket"

Only one performance left! Tonight at 8pm!

LAST SATURDAY at R&H Are Dead:
A young Latvian girl is encouraged by her parents to play the field (just don't spread) before agreeing to marry her former club-footed true love. Meanwhile, said true love's bachelor party at the beach goes wonderfully awry when his co-best friends hook up and free-loving Aunt Charlotte shows up! ("Lovers Til Daybreak")

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO SEE R&H ARE DEAD! You audience members are the bob-omb. See you in the future!
