You’ve seen the improv- now see how it’s made!

It’s no secret that veteran performers Kelly Jennings and Karen Getz are also highly coveted teachers. Kill two talented birds with a single stroke and take “The 3 C’s: Conceiving, Constructing, Creating." In this workshop, developed in conjunction with the show, you’ll learn the techniques critical to creating meaningful character. Just stop being a jerkface and read the workshop description already!

The 3 C’s: Conceiving, Constructing, Creating
with Kelly Jennings and Karen Getz
A quickie character workshop in 180 mins
Saturday, January 23rd, 12pm-3pm
$40. SAVINGS ALERT: Workshop + Ticket Package Only $50!

Tired of being the performer who only plays ‘them self?” Or maybe you have a dozen ‘characters’ but nothing to wear to that great scene? Using only their combined 50+ years of acting and improv experience, acting and clown techniques, and an uncanny ability to intuit and coach just about anyone through any situation, Kelly Jennings and Karen Getz (co-creators of Cecily and Gwendolyn’s Fantastical Balloon Ride and Killer Pussy) will help you bring to 3-dimensional life the characters you have inside.

This workshop is best for those who have completed an intermediate improv or acting curriculum, or have a solid background of performance in improv or scripted theater.

See the PJI class page for more details!

Who are these so-called "Karen Getz" and "Kelly Jennings" people? Read the longer bios here; read the short bios below. Read Katherine Hepburn's Me for a bio that Lisa Simpson does not consider a book.

Karen Getz is a three-time Barrymore Award winning, Philadelphia-based theater artist, choreographer, actor, and producer and a proud member of ComedySportz Philadelphia. Karen is a two-time recipient of a Philadelphia Theatre Initiative Grant and recipient of a 2006 Independence Fellowship for the acclaimed Suburban Love Songs and for her upcoming piece exploring the beauty of human imperfection through the behaviors of artificially intelligent robots.

Choreography and performance credits include The Little Dog Laughed (Flashpoint Theatre Co), Hair (The Prince Music Theater), Cherry Bomb (1812 Productions), Naked Cocktail (Brat Productions), The Rocky Horror Show (Arcadia University), Cabaret (Temple University). She’s been a choreographer, assistant choreographer, actor or dancer on over 20 major films and television shows, including her work as dancer and dance captain on the movie Dirty Dancing.

Kelly Jennings has been an active member of Philadelphia Comedy Sportz since 1992, where she has served as a performer, Business Manager and Artistic Director. She has been working as an actor, improviser, director, and teaching artist in Philadelphia since 1992. Credits include: Pericles (The Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival), Suburban Love Songs (Philadelphia Live Arts Festival premiere), Pay Up! (Pig Iron Theatre Co; Barrymore nomination Best Ensemble), Grease and Desist (Brat Productions and Tapestry Theater) Chesapeake (Tapestry Theatre; Best Female Performer nomination, Dublin Fringe Festival) the Lantern Theater, Philadelphia Area Repertory, Red Heel Theater, and Hedgerow Theater.

Kelly has taught improvisation and theatre for C.W. Post Long Island University, University of the Arts Continuing Education, Philly Improv Theater, The National School Community Corps and several Philadelphia based schools. Kelly has served as a teaching artist for several of Philadelphia’s well known outreach programs including Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, 1812 Productions (Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theater Education), Philadelphia Young Playwrights, InterAct Theater, and Theatre Ariel.

Karen and Kelly are founding members of legendary Philadelphia longform improv company Lunchlady Doris, currently in its 12th year of continuous performance. They are co-creators of Killer Pussy and are the founding Co-Artistic Directors of Tapestry Theater, a company dedicated to creating and supporting the work of female theater artists. As Tapestry Theater, the pair co-produced The Annual Female Funnyfest, a national festival dedicating to presenting pioneering work by funny women.
