so... i just moved into a new apartment that's pretty nice in queens.
it was just renovated, in fact, which is pretty sweet.
except that when they renovated the place, they cut all the phone lines back to the wall and covered them with drywall.
when my neighborhood dsl installer showed up, he was confused and sad.
my landlord, extraordinarily nice faceless company that it is, insists that getting phone jacks installed is a burden i must pay for.
verizon and my dsl installer both insist that it is the landlord's responsibility.
i turn to you, internet masses, for your thoughts.

Are there no jacks? Or just one jack in a pain the ass location? Its pretty easy to install additional jacks, I guess installing one jack would only be difficult in you need to know where the wires are current located at.

Get cable phone service.

I'm really tempted to do the same because every time it rains my phone and DSL go out and every time the verizon guy comes out he laughs at how crazy the wiring is outside and that there's nothing they can do to stop the problems when it rains. (when we first hooked it up there was a problem because the ATM downstairs was piggybacked on it, though the phone line hadn't been active for years...hmm....)

And i pay like $7 a month for inside wire maintenance because, well, each visit would cost tons. I always thought that charge was crazy, but necessary if you live in an apartment and don't know your own phone guy!

I had time warner cable/net for like 8 years at my old place and as much as i hate to compliment them, i never had a single problem.

the only reason i've kept my landline is because it kept working after sept 11. But that was 7 years ago, right? I should move on.
