Hey,

Does anyone on the IRC do voice over work? I've been tring to get more recently and am curious as to where successful people get their leads from.

I spoke to Zohar some time ago about voice123.com and he said he'd been successful, but they recently raised their rates and their website is a little cheesy. That made a big impression on me.

Anyway, should I just cough up the $200 or is there some other site or way of going about it? I am non union and dont have representation, I've been told an agent won't deal with non union actors. I've got a great demo and a link to the file on my website for any interested parties. I've also got a few animated short film voice over credits on my resume.

Any ideas, tips?

Also does anyone know where to find good copy? I am in the process of getting together a rad demo going and need a bunch of things to read.

AWESOME.

There are definitely agents out there who "specialize" in non-union talent and will send them out on gigs. Suzie Friedman of Friedman West is one of them. She's sent me out on a bunch of stuff.

My advice is to get a demo together, get a list of all the agents and casting directors in the city and send it out. I sent out about 35 copies of my demo and got calls from 2-3 people. Suzie has consistently sent me out on stuff.

So far I'm made all the money I spent on coaching and demo production back, but not much more. Its a really tough business...I know of a couple people who gotten some steady work, but not many.

Also, I'd recommend getting some private coaching. I've used Marla Kirban. She was really helpful and will introduce you to people if you spend enough time with her.

I took private lessons with Larry Conroy of OnCamera and Off. He produced my demo CD at Powerhouse Studios. He recommended I go to a seminar with Alan Sklar next Thursday. It's only $20 and allegedly he gives great tips on marketing yourself. I think I'm gonna go.

I also subscribe to Backstage and Ross Reports. I sent out a mailing of my CD and headshot last week to a bunch of casting directors and voice over agents. So far, haven't gotten any responses yet.

Thanks for the info on the agent! I'm gonna give her a call too.
