guys before but my friends

good LIVE band. You can catch em at

Radiohead On The Radio

This sounds like a show you might consider taping. It's the LIVE
studio-session from ELECTRIC LADYLAND that THOM YORKE and JONNY GREENWOOD did while they were in NYC for The Beacon Theatre and Field Day shows.
I am very curious to hear how some of these songs sound
all stripped down to basics.Especially EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT PLACE from KID A.
I used to listen to MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC
a lot when I lived in Los Angeles.KCRW is truly an amazing station and was largely responsible for the rise of many 90s "alternative bands" including BECK and NIRVANA.

The Mob

If you are interested in absurd social experiments and public spectacles, then the MOB PROJECTS could be of interest to you.
I was involved in MOB #2 and it was a hoot.
MOB #3 is now set.

http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,59297,00.html
http://discover.npr.org/features/fe...ml?wfId=1305617

Next, the next mob announcement, which did not contain the above press links (the mob wouldn't promote itself).

Lastly, as previously stated, I am not the mob organizer.

---

You are invited to take part in MOB, the project that
creates an inexplicable mob of people in New York City
for ten minutes or less. Please forward this to other
people you know who might like to join.

FAQ
Q. For a mob to be inexplicable, does it need to take
place in an otherwise empty space?
A. No.

INSTRUCTIONS - MOB #3: THE GRAND CENTRAL MOB BALLET
Location: Grand Central Terminal
Start time: Wednesday, July 2nd, 7:04 pm
Duration: less than 10 minutes

(1) During the day on July 2nd:
(a) Synchronize your watch to
http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java/java.
(If that site doesnt work for you, try
http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5.)
(b) On the front of a $1 bill, write the word
"MOB" over the word "ONE" on the right-hand side. If
you are concerned about the legality of this, write in
pencil. Keep the $1 bill handy.
(c) Wear comfortable shoes.

(2) Arrive at Grand Central by 6:45 pm. By then,
representatives of the MOB will have stationed
themselves in or near the downstairs food court. They
will all be reading The New York Review of Books.
(NOTE: the covers of their copies might not be
visible. Please familiarize yourself with the fonts
and layout of that periodical before arriving at the
MOB.)

(3) Based on the month of your birth, specify one of
the following letters to the MOB representative:
A: January through April
B: May through August
C: September through December
You will be given a slip on which further instructions
will be printed. This slip is your "travel itinerary"
and may be consulted in public.

(4) MOB #3 consists of a series of short mobs. The
first will begin at 7:04. You may place yourself at
the MOB site up to two minutes beforehand -- i.e.,
anytime after 7:02. NO ONE SHOULD ARRIVE AT THE FIRST
MOB SITE UNTIL 7:01.

(5) Unlike in MOB #2, you do not know each other. Do
not speak to anyone, including other MOB participants.
If you are asked a question, limit your responses to
the following:
* "I am looking for my train"
* "I think these people may be taking the same train I
am"
* "My train is supposed to leave from down here"
* "When I saw all these people come down here, I
figured I should too"
* "I am taking a train to [suburban town] to visit my
[relative]"
* "I am taking a train to a mob"

(6) Per the itinerary, the MOB will end and you will
disperse. NO ONE SHOULD REMAIN AT THE MOB SITE MORE
THAN TWO MINUTES AFTER THE MOB IS OVER.

(7) Return to what you would otherwise have been
doing. Await instructions for MOB #4.

At Jones Beach With Neil Young

So,my birthday was on Saturday and we celebrated
with a tour of Williamsburg watering-holes and dance-halls,culminating in major rug-cutting
at LUXX(Berliniamsburg).Lots of fun all-around.
So,the next day on June 29th The Wife and I
headed up to Penn Station and bought tickets
for the train ride out to Jones Beach. Why?
Because we had tickets to see LUCINDA WILLIAMS
open up for NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE.
We got out there a little early so we could
run through the waves and collect a few stones and eat.And then we headed over to the JONES BEACH THEATER.
I am now convinced that this place is magical.
I was there last year to see BOWIE/MOBY in a rain
and lighting storm and it was, without exaggeration, spectacular.
And this concert was no exception.Mellower weather prevailed but the show was still great and the scenery is breath-taking.
The stage itself juts out into the lagoon, giving the impression that it's floating on water.
And beyond that you can see a ribbon of the Atlantic Ocean framing the horizon while NEIL YOUNG
goes about breaking guitar strings and sending
jolts of distortion into the heart of the crowd.
NEILS' set consisted of two very different parts.
The first hour-plus was dedicated to his new
project,GREENDALE,a sort of rock opera(with ONLY Neil singing the songs)and features films projected on a screen(shot by Neil),actors
dancers and set pieces. The sets include a jail-cell
a house,a car etc..It is what Neil calls a "musical novel".It is all a dissection of modern America
with it's simple pleasures and grand tradgedies, seen the through eyes of a small
Northern California coastal town called GREENDALE.
It dissects the family, the media, corporate greed,police-corruption(at one point a state-trooper is shot on stage) and the loss of anonymity.
In a word:ambitious. And some of the audience seemed baffled.(aka..what the HELL is Neil thinkin' havin' dancers and actors on stage?!).Of course, the set featured some 10 new songs and for a real fan
it was a MAJOR treat.10 new songs not even available on record yet.And some of them felt like instant classics.Neil himself acknowledged the screaming requests for "the classics' in between songs and did'nt shy away from it.
He said:"The thing I love about THIS tour is that
I get to play new songs all the time..and that makes me alive..when I hear about the old songs
I'm thankful that I have them. But I'm also thankful that I don't have to play them every night. So thanks for being here."
Having seen NEIL YOUNG 5 times previously in various line-ups with various bands,I was
excited to be there.Right nest to the Ocean.
While a maverick artist tried something, daring and new. He's been at it for 37 YEARS people!
And he never seems satisfied staying put.
He has violently avoided the path of nostalgia.
He still matters as an artist.
And when GREENDALE was over NEIL YOUNG and CRAZY HORSE and a cast of dozens received a hearty standing O.
And they were rewarded with a second set of songs
that were a little more familiar.
Someone projected the words:
RUST
NEVER
SLEEPS
on the screen behind the drum set while they cleared away the jail and the house.
CRAZY HORSE walked back on stage, plugged in and nearly blew out their amps with a staggering version of HEY,HEY MY,MY(Into The Black)
and it felt like last summer again, only this time
the lightning came from Neil Youngs'
Marshall stack. And when he'd finished with DOWN BY THE RIVER I was ready for a drink. And a train-ride home.

Pretty Girls Make Graves

Broker than Hell and lookin' for entertainment
on the cheap? That makes ALL of us.On Thursday,in
the City Of New York, you'll have to choose
your free entertainment wisely.

A).THE NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC perform for you
at no cost starting at 8:00 P.M.
on the GREAT LAWN in Central Park.
For those of you who need
to impress your date after blowing most of your cash on dinner at White Castle ,this might be your chance to be smooth.AND save
some $$ for cocktails.
You can't get much more romantic than a symphony in the park
for FREE.
I,on the other hand, will not be attending this performance.
And NO it's not 'cause I'll be at Harold night.
B).I will be catching Seattle band
PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES digging in at Pier 54
FREE of any admission fee.To those of you confused
about the Pier numbering logic just find 13th st
anywhere in Manhattan and walk WEST
to the Hudson River. There you will find some
rock music performed LIVE.
I will be there too.
PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES and friends.

While we were celebrating my birthday in Brooklyn last Saturday
RADIOHEAD was in England, closing the show
at GLASTONBURY.
After a reportedly "brilliant" set from
THE FLAMING LIPS the crew cleared the stage
for the boys from Oxford.
Why did'nt my friends rent a lear-jet for this?
Would that have been too much to ask?

Lost Highway

Just picked up some new records for summer listening.

LOST HIGHWAY-The soundtrack from the DAVID LYNCH film, produced by TRENT REZNOR.
It features the music of BOWIE,MARILYN MANSON,RAMMSTEIN,ANGELO BADALAMENTI,NINE INCH NAILS(of course)
and the only interesting SMASHING PUMPKINS track I've ever heard.
It's a soundtrack,yes,but it stands on it's own as a collection of
great music.A weird, cool long-player.One of the best soundtracks ever.Possibly even exceeding the movie itself in artistic achievment. From the man who brought you the equally amazing
NATURAL BORN KILLERS soundtrack.TRENT REZNOR.
Cannot WAIT for the next NIN record, which I've heard is brewing in the mad laboratory in
New Orleans as we speak.

ARAB STRAP-MONDAY AT THE HUG AND PINT
Another good MATADOR RECORDS release from the Scottish band,
ARAB STRAP.They were in town recently opening for Bright Eyes
but should have been headlining. They are moody and narrative
and set a strange but hopeful atmosphere.I really like this band
and this record is a little more uptempo Then their usual fare.Imagine if Nick Cave
was from Glasgow and had a (somewhat)normal sex-life.ARAB STRAP.This stuff is cool and strange.

BLUR-THINK TANK.This is their latest and The Wife managed to get her hands on a promo copy from a friend at a local magazine.
You know,I give these guys a lot of credit. They were superstars in
England, running neck and neck with those dipshits,OASIS,for pop chart supremacy. If they would have stuck to the formula they would have continued to sell records like so many mugs of tea over there. But they chose instead to experiment with the form.Try a little punk rock on for size. After DAMON ALBURN spent some time with STEPHEN MALKMUS he
decided to dirty up the BLUR sound. They lost a bunch of "Britpop" fans
but they certainly gained my respect. They make Oasis look like bigger dolts with every new release. They COULD write melodic pop-rock.But they decided not to be boring.WOO HOO!!

Shhhhh...Or else..!

Radiohead has added two October shows at New York's Madison Square Garden to the itinerary for its North American tour, set to kick off Aug. 13 in Boston. The Oct. 9-10 shows in New York will close the 22-date tour, following an Oct. 6 engagement in Atlanta.

Tickets for the New York gigs and an Oct. 2 appearance in New Orleans go on sale July 18. A Sept. 25-26 stand at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles goes on sale July 19, along with dates in Houston, Atlanta and West Palm Beach, Fla. Tickets to the Sept. 23 concert in Mountain View, Calif. go on sale July 20. As usual, Radiohead's online fan organization Waste is also offering tickets to its members.

Supergrass will open the second leg of the tour; former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus and his band the Jicks will provide support for the tour's first 12 dates.

Radiohead At The Garden

The Wife and I are very happy today.
Why?Because we GOT 'EM!
Because we managed to secure 2 tickets to see
none other than RADIOHEAD at Madison Square Garden,October 9th.
This will be the third of their tours for me but
she has never seen them.In fact,2 years ago I surprised
her with tickets for the AMNESIAC tour only
to discover that she'd be out of town.
In CHINA.
Ouch.
I have promised her that they'd come around again.
And this time our schedules will be cleared well in advance.
She's happy.I'm happy.
Fitter.Happier.More Productive.
I have'nt looked more forward to a concert since
the LAST time I saw them.
Liberty State Park,New Jersey.
With a perfect view of The Twin Towers.August 16th.2001.
They were a cultural phenomenon. Now they are simply,in my opinion,
the number one most important and relevant act,of any kind,
that one could see anywhere.
And this time I'm taking the girl with me.

Barnyard Playboys

The Siren Festival is in full-swing at the moment.
Coney Island.
Still to come:RADIO 4,THE DATSUNS,MODEST MOUSE and
IDLEWILD.
But if you're like me and cannot get out to
Astroland today then head over to the Lakeside Lounge
on Ave.B tonight at 11:00 for
THE BARNYARD PLAYBOYS.If you can't get past the doorman
tell him you know Joe Baxley.Actually,I'm not sure
that would work.

White Stripes Postponed!!

Well,it seems that JACK WHITES' lucky streak
has come to an end.The mastermind behind
Detroits' WHITE STRIPES has recently sustained
injuries in an automobile accident of some kind.
And although his injuries do not appear to be
critical, they have forced the cancellation of their
upcoming shows in New York City. This includes the
show in Central Park wednesday that I've
been holding a ticket to since April. The Roseland
shows have also been "postponed".This
is unfortunate news for WHITE STRIPES fans.
Don't imagine it's easy to reschedule concerts
in Central Park. There is a small window that pretty
much closes in September. So,unless I request a refund
I'll have to settle for a date at Hammerstein Ballroom
or Roseland instead.I was looking forward to a rockin' evening in
The Park.
As an alternative for you people who share my dilemma
there is a FREE concert on Thursday at Castle Clinton
in BatteryPark featuring "alternative" Texans,SPOON.
Get well soon,Jack White.
