Power Improv Workshop Descriptions

Joe Bill's POWER IMPROV CHARACTERS [The Basics] Sat 12/11, 11am-1pm

This workshop is about creating and sustaining great characters that are vital, engaged & compelling. Most improvisers give up character power early in the scene to either look for "the game" or help their partner(s)...and then hate what they’ve created for themselves. In this class we will employ techniques to enhance the WAY we listen & connect to discover whole, real and thoroughly entertaining characters that you can sustain over scenes and shows without losing power or momentum.

Joe Bill's POWER IMPROV SCENES [The Basics] Sat 12/11 2-4pm

In this workshop we'll work with the of dynamics of Power Improv that have helped thousands of improvisers from coast to coast grow Powerful Characters into Powerful Scenes. You will learn the importance of powerful starting choices, early decisions made with emotional and situational opportunism, in order to LIVE the game of the scene and the scene of the game...and then live up to the integrity of your character and your scene by being a more responsive and present scene partner.

Joe Bill's POWER IMPROV TOOLKIT [The Whole Magilla] Sun 12/12 Noon-3pm

The focus of this workshop will be bringing the power of emotional depth and point of view to your improvised Characters and Scenes. We’ll work with understanding the vital differences in playing for Truth and playing for Funny, and I’ll include personal feedback with things to work on going forward. I’ll also spend some time troubleshooting issues that YOU the improvisers bring to workshop, in order to get to clarity or just recognize patterns to be broken. This workshop will perfectly augment ongoing study of Characters and Scene, Long Form Improvisation and Harold, as well as benefit the Improviser that is currently performing or aspiring to perform with a team or group.

For real

Joe's longform workshops are as good as improv workshops get. I can't endorse anything more highly. Especially if you're a NY cat who is grounded in UCB/PIT/Magnet school of thought, Power Improv will give you a whole new approach to making this shit super-fun.

I've been taking Joe's workshops for years, whenever he's in town, and I can't recommend them enough. They will change how you play and think about improv!
