New to Philly

#1
Greetings to other improv-enthusiasts in Philly. I've been in Philly (Camden, actually) since August starting law school. (Quick aside about law school- if the secret to the universe as revealed through improv is "yes, and..."; then lawyers are responsible for lots of society's ills by constantly arguing "no, but..." at every issue possible.) Needless to say, my life has been a lot less funny since starting school, and then I remembered an old friend, improv.
I took a few classes, saw lots of shows at the UCB in NYC when I was living close by. I really liked seeing people doing original things, trying their best, collaborating with one another, meeting interesting/coo/funny people, etc...

What I'm wondering is, do people have suggestions how to get involved with the improv scene in Philly? Good shows/groups to see? Worthwhile classes? Funny people to check out?

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.:)

Welcome! I don't know of any auditions right now, but there are plenty of shows and classes and workshops and people.
Check out www.phillyimprov.com to see what all the groups in the area are and check out some shows.
Check out www.phillyimprovtheater.com to see if you'd like to take a class or workshop.
Join in the conversations here, and introduce yourself at a show.

Welcome! I am also new to this message board (see my post a little while ago titled "Allow Me To Introduce Myself." I'm not new to the Philly improv scene, however, and can highly recommend many of the groups. For starters, make sure you go see ComedySportz, Lunch Lady Doris, 13 Skirts, Industrial Improv, and Rare Bird Show. Have fun!

Hey Tommy,

If you've done UCB classes you could totally get involved in the Philly Improv Theater... Level 2 starts this coming Sunday! Look at how fast you could get involved! :p

Full disclosure: I own the theater. That said though, it really would be a great way to get in - because the goal of our class structure is ultimately ensemble formation... so you could do some re-learning/learning and then start a troupe.
