Right now, I'm waiting out the last 20 minutes of work. When you originally posted this, though, I was at Arcosanti, which is architect Paolo Soleri's "urban laboratory." It kind of reminds me of a desert version of an ewok village.

There were plenty of things there that were interesting and astounding, but one of the most memorable things there were the stuffed croissants from their bakery. They were splendidly tasty - I'm fantasizing about them right now!

Ohhhh. How I miss you Arcosanti bakery. Your pizza stuffed delicacies.

Yes, if Frank Lloyd Wright ate a really bad burrito while watching The Ewok Adventure, Arcosanti is what he would dream of.

How come no one took me there?

Hey I might be coming back to Arizona for my dad's intervention in Winslow.

Wouldn't that be lame?

Anyway.

I am bored still.

It takes just over an hour to get there ...

If you dig the outdoors and what's discussed on the website sounds at all interesting, I think it's worth the drive. I will say that between regular inhabitants, resident workshop students, and the uniqueness of how Arcosanti is set up, you might mistake it for a hippie commune or something.

Outside of performing and watching others perform while I was there, I enjoyed the tranquility that came from just being out in the middle of nowhere.

Right now, I'd imagine that it's pretty hot during the day (they have no a/c from what I remember), but at night it cools off pretty significantly since you're out in the desert, and not in a sea of concrete and asphalt.

If you're into visiting small towns and just checking 'em out, it might be a good idea to make Arcosanti part of a weekend of heading up north and hitting Sedona, Prescott, or Flagstaff afterwards. That would chop up your time spent in the car as well. Plus, it's pretty cheap (or at least comparable to discount hotels) to stay the night at Arcosanti.
