Michael Ian Black should get this job

#1
I hope he gets it, and I hope he doesn't get it. I don't want his talents to just be on the TV show hardly anyone watches at 12:30 at night. But maybe he'd up the numbers.

Damien Fahey - no thank you pubeless boy
DL Hughley - a general "no"
Craig Ferguson - Horrible Accent
Michael Ian Black - yes please

although - i'd still watch conan - but would flip over to late late a bit more often just to see.

Eric, can you edit your post to just link to the piece, rather than reprinting the whole thing on this site?

I'm on the fence with this one. While I'd love for him to get the job (it would actually provide some competition with Conan), I'm also a huge Stella fan. I don't want to see his partnership with Showalter and Wain go down the drain because of the show. On the other hand, it would be great to watch him on TV every night.

He just shot a Stella pilot for Comedy Central and word is it is Brilliant. So I hope that he doesn't get this as I imagine he wouldn't be able to do both.

The NY Times reported that he pretty much has it in the bag. Which means the Stella comedy central show may not happen.

SHIT and WFT

According to Tuesday morning’s trade papers, Craig Kilborn’s replacement as host of CBS’ “Late Late Show” is another Craig, Craig Ferguson, the Scottish actor who played the boss on “The Drew Carey Show.”
It’s news because everyone’s been saying for months that former “The State” player and “Ed” regular Michael Ian Black was odds-on favorite for the job.
Ferguson gets his name in the title on Jan. 3.

Craig Ferguson...really?! It's funny because I saw him on friday in the city...i was walking by him and he was on the phone...i overheard this "Yea, but how much are they going to be paying me?" "It's a major concern."

I assume he was talking about The Late, late Show...

Poor Michael Ian Black.

I watched one episode of the shows each for these try-out weeks.
Frankly, I liked Craig the best!
I liked DL Hughley ok.
I found Michael Ian Black kind of dull (though before I saw any he was the one I was most interested in seeing)
And the other guy was really bad.

This was based on just the 4 episodes I watched, and obviously could be influenced by who wrote the bits and who were the guests.

I totally love MIB, but I don't see him as the talk show host type. Granted I didn't see any of the shows he hosted, but I have seen Stella a number of times, I've seen the state hundreds of times, and I see MIB in the Mall by where I work every other week. I do think being a talk show host isn't something you are automatically good at though, I assume it is something you have to do for a while and get a feel for it.

Here's hoping the Stella show gets picked up.
