Michael Hartney Would Rather Direct Your Sketch or Solo Show Than Be A Waitress.

Hi, everybody!

My name's Michael Hartney. I'm starting to take on some sketch and solo directing gigs and I'd like to do some more.

I am currently a writer/actor on the new UCB Maude Team Arbuckle. I'm also the writer/performer of So I Like Superman: A One-Nerd Show, currently running at UCB. I've been writing and performing sketch comedy in NYC since 2002, with groups like Skeeger, Secret Hospital, and the duo Hartney & Korowitz.

My background is in theatre, with a BFA in Theatre Performance from SUNY Buffalo, where I also took classes in directing and playwriting. Here in NY, I've taken sitcom writing classes with DB Gilles and Daniel Dratch, as well as sketch writing classes from Eric Drysdale and Ari Voukydis.

I'm interested in getting your script ready for the stage, getting your performances where they need to be, and making your show look awesome. So if you're a sketch group looking for some leadership or a solo performer with a one-person show in their heart, contact me for rates and availability.

But seriously, guys. I'm super-sick of waitressing. So let's do this thing.

Merry Christmas!

Oh jeez, what an incredible opportunity here! I was on a sketch team with Michael from early 2009 all the way until last month. It was an absolute delight the entire time, and Michael was a big part of why. He's not just smart and funny, he knows what makes sketches smart or funny and is incredibly helpful in finding ways to bump up an alright sketch to make it insanely hilarious and charming and memorable. Michael also knows sketch shows from every angle: acting, writing, directing, and (swoon) choreographing. Be smart, hire Michael. Do it!

Hire Hartney!

Oh, man. Michael Hartney just coached/directed our indie sketch team, Dirt Bike, through six original shows in six months. AMAZING. Great feedback, hilarious help, et al. We picked the pace, and he not only kept up, he chased us farther to good writing and staging. Individual notes, weekly, for seven newish writers. Get him out of the effin restaurant! Sara Harvey, Schezwan Tigers Comedy, and Lord Manager of DIRT BIKE.

Michael as a Coach=Golden Ticket to Success

Michael is superb as a sketch coach. He is insightful and sensitive when helping you with rewrites and he plays to your strengths as a writer and helps clarify the game of your scene.

Michael's experience as a legit actor combined with his super sharp ear for comedy makes him a dream to work with as an actor as well.

He is extremely efficient over all- he cuts right to the chase and makes your sketch and your team as good and funny as they can be. Plus, he sings and sometimes dances during the transitions of your rehearsals and that is worth the price of his fee alone.

PEOPLE. GET ON THIS. Someday Michael is going to be too famous to have time for you and you'll be all like "DAMN it, I wish I had taken advantage of Michael Hartney's directing/editing/pop-culture-referencing skills when they were right there in front of me!!"

As another Dirt Bike-r, I agree with Sara that Michael completely whipped us into shape. He gives great feedback on everything from half-formed ideas to final edits and helps you make your sketch exactly what you want it to be. He's also great at helping you create the right set for your show, rehearse the crap out of it, and laughing real loud at your funnies. Get Michael for your group! Do it!

Hartney's the man. His solo show "So, I Like Superman..." got a standing ovation the first night it went up. Someone had to at least mention it.

He's absolutely hilarious and smart and unique.

You should hire this guy to direct/coach.
