One time going into my 2nd or so 101 class, I was really out of it. When the doors opened on the 3rd floor, I got out and found myself in an incredibly white and brightly-lit room surrounded by those fencers- which, when it happens to you, is pretty fucking terrifying. They look like beekeepers with swords. I desperately stumbled backwards towards the elevator but the doors were almost closed so I was TRAPPED. Someone there asked me if I was ok and I said, "I'M IN THE WRONG BUILDING." (Note: I saw the doorman as I was walking in but in my surrounded-by-fencers state somehow rationalized it with the possibility that he works for 2 buildings that have a door between them so he has easy access.)

The thought that I got off at the wrong floor didn't occur to me so I waited for the down elevator and walked out of the building until someone from my class recognized me and asked what I was doing.

So that's my experience with the manhattan fencing club.

ucb & fencing .. i can't remember the name of the old rehearsal space, but there was an enormous fencing school on the bottom floor (big glass windows so people would just gape from the street). we'd get coffee and water at the snack bar during break.

I was in the elevator with a few other people when the door opened and I saw the third floor for the first time. I don't know if it was practice or a tournament but it seemed like the whole place was full of people swordfighting.

The elevator was silent except for one person who said,

"Yeah, they only do awesome stuff in this building."

I remember that! Manhattan Fencing. I went back a few years ago to see if it was still around, but it's gone.
