Attention everyone who likes to engage in election hand-wringing:

Why not volunteer instead and actually help affect the election you're worried about? Wouldn't that be neat and democratic?

The Obama campaign in NY has made it easy for you to help in Pennsylvania, which is an insanely important state this year:

You can pick any weekend or day that's good for you. You don't have to have ANY prior experience. And they give you everything you need, including transport down and back.

All they need is manpower, i.e. you. I can't tell you how good you will feel after doing this stuff. Please please PLEASE help out.

This is also a reminder that even donating $15 is helpful:

P.S. That I am able to easily post these links for you and get you involved in a campaign organized event is why I love the Obama campaign about 20 times more than the 2004 Kerry campaign.

I was just about to start a very similar thread.

I'm doing this with my father-in-law in the next couple of weekends. If anyone is interested in getting an IRC group together, post here and let's try to organize it.

Here's a group I've been hitching rides with: NY Latinos for Obama

They are a friendly, eager group that will be going to Allentown every single Saturday from now until Nov 4th. And, while Allentown has a massive Latino population, you don't need to speak fluent Spanish to go canvassing; they will pair you with a Spanish speaking person to assist.

In the Lehigh Valley Democratic primaries this past April, only a couple hundred of the nearly 15,000 registered democrats showed up to vote. There are supporters in the area, they just need a kick in the pants. If all the registered dems in the area showed for the general election...it would be pretty hard for for the gop to take that county.

Remember: being a presence makes a huge difference. Even if you get a door slammed here and there, folks will remember that you showed up. Sooner or later, they will realize just how important Tuesday, November 4th is. To make them realize it sooner, we need to be out there now.

Just think: you're trading a Saturday or two for Four years (hopefully 8) of something bigger and better than we've experienced as a country in a long, long time.

And just sitting on some of these families porches and talking will give you such a refreshing take on how another part of the country operates. I know I've changed some perspectives, for sure.

hey guys-

so i went last night to the obamaNY organizational meeting where theyre planning the PA trips.

first off- there are probably trips to several different places, but the most important place theyre asking people to go is SCRANTON. it's the heart of a conservative leaning Democratic district, and the center of "hillary country," where people have by no means switched their allegiance over to obama yet.

every weekend and day there is work available for volunteers to do so you can contact them about anytime youre available, but the Obama campaign is asking that SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th be the official volunteering day.

At 10am, Sat. Sept 27th in SCRANTON, PA (about 2.5 hours from nyc), the Obama campaign will train new volunteers to go out and canvas the district for the day.

Canvassing is going to houses and doing 2 things-
1. offering to help people understand more about Obama, how to vote and how to register. All things the campaign will equip you to handle.
2. marking for the campaign's purposes which way people are planning to vote (strong obama, lean obama, undecided, lean mccain, strong mccain) so that the campaign knows where to focus their efforts.

If you want to take part, the NYC campaign organizers are offering transportation for people- car pools and rented vans- you need to get in touch with Chiara Coletti <chiaratribeca@gmail.com>, and tell her you want to go, and that you need a ride.

If you have a car or access to a car, you can just go yourself/ organize a car of your friends to go by yourself.

The address is 222 wyoming ave, scranton, PA 18503, suite 1A & 1C. 857 928 7053. mapquest directions.

Email Andew Falkowski <afalkowski@voteforchangepa.com> to tell the Scranton office to expect you on Sat. Sept 27th. CC chiaratribeca@gmail.com also if you're going so they have a head count in NYC.
