Mad TV: Cancelled

#5
My understanding was that they were going into this season as their last season, and were only planning to do a half season at that.

it wasn't set as their last season officially, but the fact that FOX only gave them half of a full season order didn't sound solid.
thankfully though the network gave them enough notice so that they can give the show a decent sendoff.

i wouldn't be surprised if the show stuck around and wound up on a cable net next season though....

Sorry, but this is good news. Somebody posted here earlier this year that the show was getting better. I started watching it again and it was horrible. All of the political sketches were based on the idea that McCain is old and Obama wants change and nothing more than that. There are talented people working on that show, something was dysfunctional with the process. May a hilarious phoenix rise from its ashes.

I don't consider it good news. I have noticed that Mad TV is almost universally hated by this community (not the IRC in general, but the NY based improv and sketch comedians that make up most of it's members). But I've never understood why. Yes they have some bad sketches, and I think it was last year when they changed their format for a while and looked more like mind of mencia than anything else. I haven't been an avid watcher of Mad but I've always tuned in from time to time and found stuff that I really enjoyed, when they're bad they're bad, but when they're great they're really great. They've always had great performers, and they've always had at least a few great writers. The bottom line is, I'd hate to see them disappear, I love sketch comedy, and any loss is a loss to all of us who love sketch comedy. SNL has it's ups and downs, and at times based on the overwhelming talent of both the writers and the performers I'd say that there was something wrong with the process there as well, but they always manage to pull it together and experience a resurge in quality. This season of SNL has been my favorite in many years. The only way that canceling MadTV will be a good thing is if FOX replaces it with another better hour long sketch show, I'll be surprised if they do that. More likely they'll try to replace it with a poorly crafted chappelle's show clone.

One of the (many) retarded things that some networks are going to start doing next year is take shitty sketches that don't work on TV.... and then post 'em up on the net... then air those "viral videos" on TV. American viewers will fall for it and those shows will be the highest rated, I bet. Marshall McLuhan was right: "The medium IS the message." No one watches those Learning Channel shows about people giving birth, but if someone does it on the internet, suddenly people are interested.
