The Way Of Improv is an 8 week class in long form improv led by Rich Talarico. Rich is an 18-year improv vet having studied with Stephen Colbert, Del Close and Charna Halpern. Rich has performed with improv groups like IO, IOWEST, UCB NY, UCB LA, PIT Theater NY, Armando Diaz Show, Trio & Close Quarters. Rich was a staff writer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Saturday Night Live, a writer/producer on Mad TV and also an alum of Chicago's Second City Theater. Currently, Rich performs with the long form group "Dasariski" at UCB LA.

Rich has led workshops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston & Toronto. And, Rich has taught countless workshops for companies such as Motorola, McDonald's, Chicago Public Schools and The Boston Consulting Group.

The way of improv is a zen approach to improv that teaches

*story telling skills*

It's logic not necessarily creativity that opens the doors, so good improv is within anyone's reach.

*group mind*

it's all about working together so experience is not a must.

*plotless improv*

play "who" and "where" and let the "what" take care of itself...

AND

*how to keep plot playful*

plot based scenes can be tough to negotiate,
we'll examine how to deal...

this class is open to beginners and vets.

"Rich Talarico is one of the all time great Caucasian improvisers."

-- Tina Fey

"Rich Talarico is one of the funniest and most inspiring human beings on the planet. As a teacher, his techniques and insights help you to become the best improviser you can be, in a very calm, cool and collected way."

-- Kevin Patrick Robbins
Artistic Director
Impatient Theater Co (Toronto)

"Rich is one of those rare people who not only loves to teach, but also wants to learn from his students. His passion and respect for improv as an ever-evolving art form is infectious. Also, he's a shitload of fun."

-- Amy Rhodes (student Way Of Improv)

"By the end of eight weeks, I not only kicked more ass at improv, but I was also a better artist and collaborator overall. The Way of Improv benefits artists looking to improve in any creative discipline."

-- Joe Roche (student Way Of Improv)

"This class is jazz for the performer. Rich Talarico has discovered a
one of a kind way into the art of improv, acting, and life. Out of my
fifteen years of performance based classes this one will always be
remembered."

--Ken Peterson (student Way Of Improv)

"I can honestly say that Rich's class was one of the best improv classes that I have taken. He has a unique teaching style that is different from every teacher I have had. His Zen like qualities are very easy to get comfortable with and the next thing you know, you have become a much better performer. I recommend "The Way of Improv" to every improviser that I know."

--Andy Ostroff (student Way Of Improv)

"Rich taught me the way to be confident with object work is to practice it. You'll get comfortable and it will become a second nature part of your improvisation. Rich is the zen master of improv. He is all about the group mind. It is said that "slow motion will get you there faster". Rich shows you how the small gifts you give each other build to deep, wonderful characters and scenes."

-- Cean Okada (student Way Of Improv)

"Rich's take on improv is unlike any other teacher I've had. In this current improv climate, where a scene is just a shallow game and an entire show consists of two improvisers standing in one place and talking to each other, his focus on intense object work and making small moves has added a layer to my improv technique that you can't learn anywhere else, it seems. Definitely worth taking, and taking again."

-- Adam Bowers (student Way Of Improv)

"After many years of studying and performing improv, Rich's class was the one that really cleared up my approach to scenework. I left his class feeling confident and having many tools at my disposal to instantly create stronger scenes. The surprising thing is how very simple these ideas are.

-- Steve Halasz (student Way Of Improv)

"I have never heard of another approach to improv that even resembles Rich's Way of Improv. I've been encouraging everyone I know to learn about forgoing the "flamethrower" way of starting a scene for the "two sticks" way. Rich uses an environment of positive thought and support to encourage the growth of group mind and point-of-view. Thereby, the players learn to focus on their relationship with each other in the scene to build a real story, versus forcing plot onto one another. For anyone that wants to learn a more patient, organic way of playing, I can't recommend this class enough."

-- Amanda Barnes (student Way Of Improv)

"I blame Rich Talarico for ruining my improv. Now I can't just play the silly, mindless games. Now I have to do things like listening, slowing down, using my environment, and generally being part of something bigger than myself. It's terrible."

-- Ryan Karloff (student Way Of Improv)

Holy Shit! How is it that this has been up for an hour and isn't sold out already.

I'm going to see if I can afford to move to LA for two months to take this class, but until then, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to anyone out, having studied with Rich two years ago in a workshop at the PIT.
