A Better Business Bureau complaint was filed July 31, 2003, against Together Dating of Irvine, an upper-end dating service, for contract violation (Together Management Group, Inc). Internet dating in bricks ‘n’mortar setting for those with bucks, like Paula Abdul, Together, advertised as “The world’s largest personal introduction service,” promises a date a month with someone so like yourself, you are guaranteed a good time even if there is no chemistry. The contract signed and sealed says they will deliver, by mail, the name and number of your perfect match. If you meet, great. If you decide not to, you send in a feedback form; and what’s more, it doesn’t count against the number of referrals in your contract.
Sounds good until your counselor calls, pressuring you to take this one referral…the subject is separated, going thru a messy divorce (no, doesn’t remotely match any criteria you thought you’d established in that compatibility profile), but hey, it doesn’t count, right? Talk and send in that feedback form…a poor copy with no mention anywhere of Together or help or …well, you get the picture. No referral comes after that. You think, well, one a month, OK. A month passes; you call. “Well, if you’re in such a hurry, I’ll see what I can do this week.” Famous last words, no referral, no call, no nothing.
By this time, you are remembering your initial interview: completely empty desks, no computers, two people ambling around. What! Was I blind? Apparently so. I had enough sense to go for the cheapest package 6 meetings for $2,990. I know, I KNOW. My credit card was checked before my personality test dried and it was debited before I got to the parking lot.
