JoshAgreement's Journal

#1
Hi, I’m just setting up this journal for my son. He’s 9 years old and he’s a great kid. He also has a deep love of improv. My wife says he first fell in love with it when we used to watch the show on ABC, “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” He’s constantly reading books about improv and he absolutely forced our hand on letting him watch “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” As my wife tries to explain to her parents, “We just couldn’t say no anymore!”

He’s been reading your board for a few months now. After much begging, I’ve agreed to let him register and get his own sign-in name. Already he wants to start his own blog here. I’m no stranger to message boards myself, so please treat him kindly and PLEASE watch the content of your private messages if you send him any.

(no subject)

I didn't mean for the title of this to be just something simple like what was put. I was thinking maybe I would name it (no subject) like when you get an email someone sends without a title. There could be anything in the email. Improv is kind of like that.

Wait, I just want to say, I am not in to Who’s Line is it Anyway? When I was younger I liked it. But even then, I didn’t like it that much. Back then though, I feel like everybody used to be really into short form. Improv is an art like anything else, so it goes through phases, I think. I’m really excited to see what happens with improv over the next few years.

But anyway I really don’t like short form anymore. It can be kind of funny sometimes when they sing but, really it’s mostly just stupid.

I wanted to tell you about the reason I chose my name: JoshAgreement. From everything Ive read it seems that agreement is the most important part of improv. You don’t want to start arguing with other people.

It seems kind of weird that that is such an important rule because in most movies and tv shows and stuff people are usually arguing with each other. If everyone gets along its usually boring. I'm not really sure how its so different in improv. Thats one of the main things i dont get yet but i hope i get to see more and i see what they all say. That you have to say yes.

I gotta be honest, because the thing is I don’t get to do improv much. I try to do it with some of my friends but they don’t really get it, but my friend Jeremy is going to come with me to a show soon he said so after he sees it I think it’ll be better. He’s mostly into music though. He’s really into the Beatles but also likes Sum 41. I don’t really know about music. When I was younger it seemed weird to me that people even like music. I mean because all it is really is noises right? But now I’m starting to like it. But I guess I always liked it. We’ve got a lot of cds. My dad’s a musician. Not a real one but he tells people that. He’s really a lawyer. It’s law about business though so its not very interesting. He says he doesn’t want me to be a lawyer though so its not like he’s one of those kinds of fathers. I have to go eat dinner now. They ordered Indian. I hate Indian! But I do like the bread. Watch now I’m gonna go to the table and be like naaaaaaaaaan naaaaaaaaaaan naaaaaaan. They love that.
