Hey everybody! My schedule has opened up quite a bit without that job thing filling it up, and I am taking it upon myself to do a number of things that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time but never had the time. One of those things is directing a Spank show.
If you don’t know me, I’m currently a writer for the Maude team Beige where I’ve written sketches like this and this. I’ve written a Spank show myself in the past and am currently working on another one with a co-writer. In addition, I’ve been writing sketch comedy for the better part of a decade (yikes!) and have studied it with the UCB and Second City. Last year, I helped run a sketch writing group.
On the directing front, I’ve directed a number of full-length plays as well as sketch shows. A couple years ago, I was the assistant director for a musical which had a sold out run in the 2009 Fringe Festival as well as an (almost sold out) run in that year’s Encore Festival.
I’m also on a first name basis with a whole bunch of UCB tech people! That’s helpful!
I love all this stuff and I’d love to help you make your show the best it could be. If you’re interested, please contact me (jonbershad at gmail) and we can meet up. We can talk about your show, go over a script if you’ve got it, and you can decide if you think I’m a good fit. No pressure! We don’t even have to kiss until the third rehearsal.
