Individuals seeking work or looking to improve their employment options can now acquire valuable skills at the Brooklyn Public Library. We are now offering online professional and job readiness courses through Metrix Learning Systems. This eLearning web site provides access to more than 5000 classes and assessments in wide array of fields from IT professional and project management, to health care (through MedCom) and basic computing, in addition to a variety of soft skills courses. These classes can help individuals acquire a particular skill, boost their standing in the job market, or prepare for certification in a number of areas such as Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks.
Currently, Metrix is administered at four BPL locations: Business & Career Library, Information Commons, DeKalb, and Macon. Users must attend an information session at one of these locations to receive a license which allows them to take an unlimited number of classes over the course of six months. To make sure users have the basic computer skills to take advantage of the online classes, a short digital literacy assessment is given at the information session.
