Yeah...Apple is very helpful about this. Just call 1-800-275-2273 and follow the instructions to get to a person. Describe your problem, and they may ask you to put it into diagnostic mode and run a couple of tests. When that doesn't work (assuming your problem is legit), they'll send you a pre-paid box, you put it in, and they'll fix it or send you a new one.
I should say that random lock ups are generally the result of shaking it...I had that problem when i kept it in my pocket and walked around town...that kind of violent motion (i walk fast) can really screw things up. Now i generally hold it or put it in my bag where it doesn't get jostled as much.

P.S. I prefer calling Apple directly because I've heard the people at the Apple store, particularly at soho, can be dicks. I'd much rather deal with the nice midwesterners and californians over the phone.
